X Factor 2008 Auditions

We get literally hundreds of requests from potential X Factor auditionees every week asking how they can appear on next year’s show. Here’s everything you need to know:

  • The X Factor has a three year contract, so the show will be running every year until at least 2010
  • Categories for next year haven’t been confirmed yet but are expected to be the same as this year - Girls 14-24, Boys 14-24, 25s and Overs and Groups
  • The show is always short on decent groups so if you think you might not make it through the very tough first round alone, why not form a group?
  • As with 2007, entrants must be 14 or over. Those under 18 must get permission from a parent or guardian.
  • The closing date for applications is the 7th March 2008
  • See the full terms and conditions before applying.

If you’ve read all that and are ready to apply then click here!

  46. To here a song that is coming from somebodys heart makes my day, and thats why i try to do this, my family and freinds are very close to me but when i sing they just laugh but some people do like to listen to me, i would love to sing to the judges to show them what singing really means to me and to see if they like it, i would be so happy if my dream come true as this does mean alot to me and then i could prove people wrong and i no that this would change my life forever because then i know that i can sing with all of my greatest passion. and good look to all of the people in 2008 if u get through, i have applied but now im waiting with fingers crossed that i will be a auditionee. x xx x xx x

So if i could sing and get the money, what a dream job and a bonus that would be :D you can garentee that i will be there next year coz there’s no harm in trying. Good Luck to all xxx

  75. i auditioned for 2007, and some wet behind the ears idiot in a t-shirt said no. not being biased but i could have made the televised stages, but now feel that if youre not seen as a long-term investment, then over 21’s need not apply. the whole thing is a p.r stunt, id have got on the telly if id been a gofer or put a scarf over my face! enter if you want to be ridiculed. 77. I Auditioned in 2007. Before they had applications forms that you could print out and send by post. However this year is online application. They might bring the applications out in january or something. When you send it off they take a couple of months to reply. most people get an audition so dont worry. you have to get through two producer rounds then you see the judges. its a long and tiring day but worth the experience. good luck.

    Comment by yasemin — Saturday, 29 December, 2007 @ 16:25

  78. Must admit, it makes you feel very sorry for the people who get through who are terrible —- they must get past 2 people before they are told they are terrible. Is that fair? I thought that everyone the judges saw was their first time infront of people. Does make you feel that people are ’set up ‘ for a fall.

    Sorry to sound naive ——–

    Comment by Mick — Monday, 31 December, 2007 @ 22:45

  79. I auditioned last year 2007 and got through to boot camp. I was a bit miffed that i never got shown on tv. but a producer said to me that if i were to carry on to the next round then it would not be fair on the other contestants as im too good for the finals and would breeze through so i got kicked out… the xfactor is a farce and dont go on there as they already grrom there finalists before the show starts!!!

I have a funny feeling that this years winner (2008) Will be a Lady aged over 40 yrs, but under 50. It’s not just young people who have talent, and/or the X Factor.

I was rejected by X Factor last year, in 2007 and would love to have another chance at an audition and have the opportunity of meeting dear Mr Simon Cowell. Simon Cowell is known as a Mr Nasty although I had previously behaved as Miss Nasty. Please forgive me Simon, we do love you really.

My cousin Walter who is very handsome suggested that I re apply hopefully there will be a major improvement.

    With Lots of Love to

  116. Been to the audition at Manchester United Football ground today. Arrived at 6.30 for a promised 8.00 start with my daughter. Walked out at 12.00 as the auditions hadn’t even started. A complete shambles. At 8 thet started filming for the title sequences for the auditions programmes. It was freezing and we had to stay outside for 2 1/2 hours before we were let in. Once inside we were sent to sit inside a freezing cold stadium and were then told that once every one was seated they would start auditions at the bottom of the seating in front of the pitch behind screens 10 at a time.I went to have a look outside to discover that there were still about a 1000 plus people to come in and i saw people with audition stickers over 2500.Everyone was freezing shivering with chattering teeth. How could they expect anyone to sing in those conditions. So we left.I would advice people to form a group. they were seen inside in the warm and were out before they let any of the soloists in.In my opinion they should not have let so many people attend. The presenters were only bothered about the filming they needed to do and told blatent lies about when everyone would be seen

I’m writing to say how disapointed I was with the way every one was treated at the Manchester United football grounds.

1,We arrived at 6am sharp in the car and was faced with £10 parking fee.
2, Waiting in the que from 6am to 8am (not a problem)
Then a member of the X-Facter team started talking to the audience getting them to do things for the camera’s(not a problem)
3, At about 0820 the presenter then said the judges are getting ready and will be seeing people in about 30minutes. 1030am we started to move inside the manchester united grounds. At last we thought a warn building. This did happen….we went straight into the stadium and was seated in the cold again.
4, we then had to wait and do more things for the camera’s, once every one was in the grounds.
5 low numbers at the bottom and high numbers right at the back 1 to 4000 or 5000 entrants.
6 the judges who were meant to be ready at 9am at the lastest didn’t even have the flimsy partitian boards erected down near the field.
7 Judges then came out and started to listen to contestants.(so you have a flimsy partitions seperating the hopeful contestant from the 5000+ people behind them. Simon Cowell once during an Xfactor was judging when he got up and went into the room next door and told the people off for making too much noise and that it was ruining it for others) there was a strong wind coupled with the freezing cold this surely does not allow people to perform at their best.(Me included)
7 X factors worker did not control the flow of poeple bieng judged as I was in the 600’s yet poeple as high as the 2000’s were seen before me was this fare I think not.
I do feel that the xfactor machine should realise the poeple that make the show a success were there at Manchester, Yet we were treated no better than cattle.

  118. I auditioned this year at the M.E.N auditions, on the 19th April, and got through the first round after just over 10 hours of shivvering inside and outside the stadium.

I went on my own and nobody except for a few friends knew I was there until the judge gave me a golden tickets and I phoned my mum, mates etc…

anyway, on that day I had a bad throat, and singing in freezing cold weather ony made it worse, and with 6000 poeople there I developed laryngitis, and with it being a viral infection, it must have come from someone at the auditions, but im not complaining.

so yeah, I had my second audition 3 days later back at the M.E.N again, but by this time I had developed a mixture of acute laryngitis and early stages of tonsilitis, so as you can imagine I could hardly even talk or breathe, never mind sing.

I was told I was not allowed to reschedule and that I had to take my audition on that day or not have it at all.
I was obviously rejected ’cause of not being able to sing the way I did a my first audition.

i’m not bitter about it but im just warning people that the producers/people involved will not be understanding if something happens to your voice or you get sick during the time in between the early stages of the show.

i’ve decided that i’m going to attend the open auditions as my voice will be back to normal by that time, and if I don’t get through there then atleast I know it will be about my voice and not the fact that I couldnt project or control it due to sickness.

so yeah, hope you all see me on tv. :D

  119. deception at the may 26th auditions ,o2 arena.after queueing like so many for hours and being soaked to the skin i eventually registered and waited even more hours only to be told NO.after speaking to the manager of our section we were told that too many golden tickets had already been given to teenagers hence the quota was filled..a judge even heard me warming up in the toilets and said i would have no problem getting through..if true about the tickets then shame on the management for treating so many youngsters with such distain and arrogance.IT IS NOT FUNNY..

  120. Hey guys.

I was just wondering…does everyone that auditions, audition in front of Simon Cowell etc? Or, are there other people that audition some of the singers? Really interested to know, as this would lead me to believe something sketchy was going on.

    Comment by Ollie — Saturday, 16 August, 2008 @ 19:35

  121. The truth is that what you see on TV is the 2nd round of auditions. The first round of auditions which have never been mentioned on TV take place with a bunch of no-bodies listening to the singers sing between 20 and 90 seconds before going onto the next person. Sometimes people are on their own, other times they take groups into a room and will go through 5/6 people at one time.

People are then picked to go through to the next round which is what you see on TV.

Remember that they ARE NOT after many good singers. They want poor singers and people who they can poke fun at on TV as that it what brings in the ratings.

If everyone was great, how would people pick?

Also you need to get in earlier as there is a quota system in place like all talent competitions. They need X good singers, Y bad singers, and Z freak-shows. Once they get to their quota they wont let u through regardless.

So you have to get in early, which these days means camping out the day before

  122. Bye Bye Bambi (aka Cheryl), Hello Chris Cowey. If the producers are so desperate to keep a piece of eye candy like Cheryl then make her a host(ess) along with Dermot. Don’t ruin this show by making a child a judge. I realise a lot of this show is fixed (eg the first round of judging is not really the ‘first’ round; the judges slagging each other off for ratings, etc) but at least make the show worth watching by getting a decent music industry veteran to replace Sharon.

Wasn’t the guy who sang “Some times when we touch” on the Saturday 6th 08 show amazing?! I wish him the best of luck in the world and I would most certainly buy his album if it’s filled with as much passion as that one song.

  125. I think this year’s X Factor is better. Cheryl Cole is a good replacement for Sharon Osbourne and that the talent has gone higher.

    Comment by James — Monday, 8 September, 2008 @ 09:00

  126. Cheryl is the worst possible replacement for Sharon. She has no clue what it really takes to make it in the music industry. Six years in the business in a pre-fab band is not enough experience to be a judge. She should never have been chosen and should be replaced but the show is now all about eye candy and dirty old men which is why I have not watched it this year. Shame really as I am sure there would be some good talent coming out of it but I can’t bear to watch the judging panel. Cheryl….do us all a favour and get off the show. You should have more self respect then to be used in a programme as eye candy….unless of course your too simple to realise that’s all you are to this show.

    Comment by Lynda — Saturday, 13 September, 2008 @ 15:52

  127. CHERYL, is actually very good on x-factor. She has showed more maturity, dignity and emotion than even danni, louis and simon have! Yes she is attractive, and you are always going to get women who slag her off which is pathetic. But so far, and i think i speak for alot of people, she has been a damn better than sharon osbourne, who was a fake and phony bitch of a ‘wannabe rockstar’ So here’s to me and everyone else, ENJOY X-FACTOR 2008!!!!!! :D

You are clearly extremely bitter and jealous towards Cheryl , get over yourself!Cheryl is the best thing that has ever happened to the show. She’s completely down to Earth. She knows exactly what to look for in people , and she’s an amazing judge , not to mention Beautiful ,clever, kind and talented. She’s one of the best roles models young girls like me could have ,and she’s quickly becoming regarded as the nation’s favourite sweetheart.Shje’s going to make a fantastic mother someday! Lynda , whatever issues you have going on , don’t lash out at the young , good looking , talented people simply because you’re too bitter about your own life! WE LOVE CHERYL!! :) Alice XxX
