Olly Murs has gone straight to the top of the UK charts with his debut single, ‘Please Don’t Let Me Go
‘.
He did this despite the tough competition from Katy Perry and Taio Cruz. X Factor 2009 winner Joe McElderry famously failed to reach number one when his single was first released – although captured the top spot after Xmas.

This week saw the semi-final of X Factor 2009, and the exit of Danyl Johnson after he polled the lowest number of votes from the public
“I may have gone out in the semi-final, but I’ve gone out to some of the best people I’ve ever met” was Danyl’s gracious response when told of the result. Simon Cowell was impressed with Danyl, saying he had “gone out on a high”.
Danyl’s exit means that Olly Murs, Stacey Solomon and Joe McElderry are in next week’s final.
