Bucking the recent trend, this week’s X Factor loser, Andy ‘Asbestos’ Williams, failed to blame his mentor on the X Factor, Dannii Minogue. In an even bigger break from tradition, Andy also didn’t say poor song choice was responsible for his exit!
When asked what he though was the cause of his exit on Saturday, Andy said:
“I knew as soon as I started singing on Saturday that I’d cocked it up a bit. I started off-key! If you mess up the start of a song, people are going to walk into the room and say ‘What the hell is that?’ That’s the end of it, unless you’ve got a ‘Nessun Dorma’ finale or something”
Watch Andy’s performance below and decide if he deserved to go out for yourself:
For once on the X Factor 2007 the two acts with the worst performances of the night were in the bottom two - Andy, mentored by Dannii Minogue, and Beverley mentored by Louis Walsh.
After both the judges backing their own acts, and Sharon Osbourne opting to send Andy home, the final decision was left to Simon Cowell. If he voted to keep Andy it would be left to the public vote, if he voted to keep Beverley then she would stay in the competition.
In the event Simon said that “both performances were very poor tonight”, but he had to decide who he thought the public wanted to keep.
That person was Beverley, leaving a tearful Andy out of X Factor 2007.
It’s big band week, and after all the controversy before the show, you have to wonder if any of it will have had an effect on the remaining contestants.
Here’s what they’ll be singing tonight:
Andy - This Guy’s in Love
Alisha - Valerie
Beverly - Feeling Good
Futureproof - Can’t Take my Eyes off You
Hope - Hanky Panky
Leon - Fly me to the Moon
Niki - All that Jazz
Rhydian - Get the Party Started
Same Difference - Reach
