1 Direction left the X Factor tonight in third place, after polling a lower number of votes that either Matt or Rebecca.
1 Direction were formed by Simon Cowell from the solo boys deemed not good enough to proceed on their on. They commented “for me the whole journey has been absolutely incredible”. Zane from the group vowed that they would continue as a group, and their mentor Simon Cowell said that this was ‘just the beginning, not the end’.
On tonight’s final, the contestants will be singing their audition songs we reported on Thursday, as well as their winner’s song selections. In a break with X Factor tradition, each contestant will have a different song as their choice for the winner’s single.
Here’s what they’ll be singing:
Matt Cardle – When We Collide
Rebecca Ferguson – Distant Dreamer
1 Direction – Young Forever

Cher Lloyd has missed out on the chance to sing in tomorrow night’s three-way final, after polling the lowest result in the public vote.
Cher had been in the bottom two for the last couple of weeks, and even said at this week’s press conference that she ‘didn’t expect to win’.
The result means that Rebecca Ferguson, 1 Direction and Matt Cardle will perform in tomorrow night’s final.
