Mary Byrne: X Factor bosses rigged the show to get rid of me

Mary Byrne has spoken out against X Factor bosses, claiming they deliberately orchestrated her exit from the show on Sunday. Viewers were outraged after Mary was voted off by the judging panel – even though they had been told by Dermot O’Leary that “Your votes and your votes alone can get your favourite act safely through to the final.”.

Mary said “It’s a fix. It’s obvious Simon Cowell didn’t want me. I knew the public had voted for me to stay on, and I actually thought the result would be based just on their vote. It was only on Saturday I discovered that there would be a sing-off where the judges decided. Simon apologised to me afterwards and I joked: ‘You could have warned me, you b*****d.’ He told me I was going to be a multi-millionaire within a year though so I’m happy with that. That’s why I gave it everything on stage, because I knew the result, and I knew it would be my last song. On Saturday I was given the ‘save me’ songs. I knew then my days were numbered.”

Leaks from the show suggest that Cher Lloyd, who went through to the final, polled a much lower percentage of the vote than former Tesco worker Mary.

The show’s producers have attempted to calm the public by assuring that there will be no sing-off during next weekends shows, when one act will leave on Saturday, and the winner will be crowned on Sunday.

  2. Cher is the better all round singer and more appealing to the modern world of music, judges were right to put her through.

  3. Why keep the number of votes secret?

Here’s a question which viewers should be asking themselves: Why are we NEVER told the EXACT NUMBER of votes which each act received??? Surely, in this modern age of computerisation, it would be very simple to reveal exactly how many votes each individual act received??? In any case, letting the public know these figures would only add to the credibility of the results, so how can it be a bad thing?

  4. here’s a question: Who pays for the TV licence ? You do
Who the pays again to produce ITV programs? You do with phone votes and competitions.
My call is to reduce the licence fee, take ITV out of the equation all together and the pay a monthly fee for their programming. Or altenatively just take their licence off them altogether.
VOTE FOR THIS, VOTE FOR THAT, WHO SAID THIS, WO SAID THAT. Who gives a flying ****. Produce something decent
without a phone in and stop taking the proverbial.

  5. they are kept a secret as if the public knew who was going through, they wouldn’t vote – e.g if they felt their fave act was ‘safe’.

Also, it opens up quite a can of worms – making the show the democratic process they say it is…may just be too scary for the likes of ITV.

  6. Sounds to me like a very bitter lady!!! You were in a competition, you were voted in the bottom two by the general public, then the judges chose to keep the best all rounder, who can sing more than one type of song, dance, rap, and put on a show!!! If you wanted to stay in you should have tried being more versatile instead of being a one trick pony!!!

  8. Revealing the numbers of votes as the show goes along would influence voters and possibly demoralise performers. I think it’s right only to revelal them when the show is over.

Mary is a great performer but only really at beltingout balads. Cher showed herself to have potential to be a great singer but she is very young and immature at present. The choice of Cher reflects that she has a long term future that could/should flourish into something quite spectaular if she works at it. Mary, on the other hand, has pretty well peaked and there are unlikely to be any surprises from her in future.

That is why, I believe, the judges chose Cher – and quite rightly.

And I don’t much enjoy Cher but I can understand this.

  11. Why are we bothering wasting our time voting for the contestants on X Factor when at the end of the day the Judges have the last word, it seems to me that the cost of the phone calls that we make should be re-imbursed as it seems that we are wasting our time voting, I for one will not be voting anymore, its nothing but a farce.

  12. ur not taking into consideration the fanbase mary created it has been noted in the uk he eletric lowered in households across the uk wen mary was voted off and every one knows the voting system is rigged..but in the end the lady from the start will win who i pinned my votes on rebecca…who is the most original, the rest…i heard them voices all before….nothing original there….theresa theres a thing called dignity and being truthful to ones self in life….i continuelly each day hope the next day i wake up i am honest with the world i live in, the judges on xfactor i doubt know what this is

  13. let’s have a new show called ‘WHO’S GOT THE BEST POTENTIAL’. Non of the contestants can sing, dance, play an instrument or write music. All the public have to do is vote on who they think will make a star in the future. VOTE NOW I NEED YOUR MONEY !!!!

  14. I was disappointed that mary went out of the semi final. In my opinion she was the better singer on the night, but someone has got to be in the bottom two. I do think that cher did deserve to be in the bottom two, and personally when the judges were voting at the end it annoyed me to see that cher was sniveling, probably to get the sympathy vote to stay in. I really really hope she does NOT win – Matt and Rebecca should be the last ones in, and Matt to win.
