Matt Cardle: Katie Should Have Gone!

Matt Cardle has come out in support of Aiden Grimshaw, who went home last Sunday after polling the lowest number of votes from the public.

Cardle said that Aiden was “a much better singer” than Katie, but that “In terms of the television show, Aiden was expendable”. In an interview with the Daily Record he said:

“I was shocked when Simon sent him home, but then Katie is better for the show than Aiden is. She gets the coverage, she gets the show attention. He just isn’t like that but he is a much better singer.

“When it went to Katie and Aiden in the bottom two, I didn’t think he would go. Even when it went to deadlock, I thought he would stay. It is like losing a brother.”

Simon Cowell defended his decision to save Katie Waissel on the Xtra Factor, saying that he admired her resilience.

  2. Well said Matt but now do the honourable thing, and persuade Rebecca and Mary to do the same, – withdraw from the competition. It is a sham. You are the only three singers left. All the other acts, apart from Paige, have rung pound signs in Cowell’s mind. None of them have any talent. I am shocked that the parents of the boys in One Direction are letting their sons be so obviously exploited.

  3. Matts right Aiden is alot better at singing tha Katie is.Katies been in the bottom 2 four times now. Simons only keeping her because he brought her from another record deal. Otherwise im sure simon feels bad about letting Aiden go I would… :)

    WAGNER BOOO!!

  4. It doesn’t matter who went because the votes are the votes. Katie got more votes. Don’t like it, next time vote.

  5. well said(y).Katie should of gone!! its obvious that the public dont like her otherwise she wouldnt be in the bottom 2 all the time. Its wrong that katies alowed to be on the Xfactor if she already got a reccord deal in the U.S, its unfair on all the other contestents!!!
Katies a fix, just like last years jedward!

Matt.Cher.OneDirection.Rebecca&Mary got the powerfullest voices on the Xfactor!!

  6. i like katie and aiden the same and i think matt is sort of right about the bit where he said that aiden is a better singer but if i was one of the judges i would keep in katie as she is more fun to watch.

  7. I partly disagree with Alex as Aiden should have stayed in. Katie should leave this week.

  8. Just a thing, is this xfactor a joke or what? why are they keeping the worst singers in and letting the good ones go…..The show is probly not worth watch anymore actually, its pathetic…if the public votes are low on a good singer then the judges should take over. What in any right mind is Wagner still in??????

  11. katie is well known to simon and louis and has has music recording deals with them over the past couple of years, she was a stand in on the xfactor tour a couple years ago so she’s no stranger to them or there company. she now qualifies for the next xfactor tour and even if she’s in the bottom 2 this weekend she wont go they owe her, i for one and many others wont be bothering with the xfactor tour and wont be wasting my money voting.. the best talent will make in the future but will have to go thru the humiliation each week that this show puts them thru…. rebecca, matt and cher will make it the others will be has beens except one direction because simon has already started to promote them he has set up a recording deal with syco his own company and all the advertising and promotion deals have been put in place win or lose, o yes simon ur staff are not as faithful as u think………

  12. I for one don’t agree wth this… I have never thought Aiden was that good!
and when it comes down to a public vote, well you can’t really argue! was very surprising though!!
Katie should have gone last week instead of treyc, now she was much better than both katie and aiden!
as for wagner… he is unbelievably atrocious!!! who in their right mind votes for him thinking he has talent?!!!? the nation is playing a cruel joke… he is worse than your average kareoke singer, and thats not a particularly high standard to begin with.
He doesn’t even look as though he knows whats going on these days and the judges have been struggling to comment on him without ripping into him. Except Louis who is out of his mind and thinks its funny…
Two things i have come to rely upon each week; wagner will butcher any songs he performs and katie will be in the bottom two

  13. i think its a disgrace that wagner is still in it and katie.
aidan should have stayed i tink its all a joke that they would save katie, you can tell she is not genuine and also the rumour that she already had a record deal i taught that it was one of the rules not to have a record deal before you audition.

  14. Hello Simon
Firstly thanks for brilliant show & making my Saturday nights in more exciting I look forward to watching the program every weekend.

On that note though I have been dissapointed with the the judges last few decisions which I feel have taken away the whole purpose of the show to find a star who can sing, if this does not change it could affect the future of X Factor which would be sad as you allow stars to shine, give people a chance to chase the dream you must understand that…

I am the same age as you love music most of your themes each week I connect with but last year we had Jedward this year Wagner where is the singing talent?? Two acts have gone out which is unfair/wrong because of the public vote, do you not realise that is only to p..s you off ?I am a member of the public and trust me everyone I speak too is disgusted that Tracye lost last week to Katie it looked like you did tactful voting because Katie is in the press which boosts ratings…..

In a nut shell Simon you dont need the money work hard but please rethink your ideas as the public will get bored easily it always seems the same people win young/attractive which I understand but how can you justify Wagner who has cost the future off more talented people.

Please dont take this the wrong way but you know doubt will say its the public vote that counts, which is true maybe you should put a member of the public on the panel, then the public will feel there is no fix and the vote will be fairer. Many of the people I have spoken too suggested this as they feel the show is becoming a monopoly and fashion contest the ordinary people make the money can you imagine the buzz that will generate a representative of the masses.

Expect you won’t even read this mail but new ideas will keep the show alive every thing dwindles in the end need to keep changing to alight peoples interest.

Once again thanks for all your hard work Simon trying to help people with talent hope you are not offended by my comments but the show needs an injectuion of fun.

  15. The X Factor is so hypocritical!!! Was it last year or the year before Simon voted out Laura White because he kept saying she just didnt connect with the public (but really she was competition to his acts)….so if he is that bothered about a connection with the public why on earth is he not saying that to Katie now!!!?? He has lost the plot and doesnt seem to care about the show or the fact everyone has lost all respect with what it was about! Danni is the only genuine judge giving contestants real and honest constructive feedback.

  16. Can I just say that if X factor was a singing contest, the public would not be allowed to vote! The so-called experts would make the decision, so please don’t believe Simon Cowell when he says he trusts the public. The only trust he has in the public is that they are gullible enough to part with their cash to line his pockets.
Also, I really like Matt as a singer but who the hell does he think he is! This is a competition where somebody has to go each week, never mind all that crap about Aiden being like a brother, they were in direct competition! Wagner has been put through fair and square, he has been voted for by the public fair and square, anyone would do the same as him and would have a go. What is wrong with that? Surely they’ve watched X factor previously? (Jedward, Same Difference, Chico…) so if Matt and Co. feel that strongly perhaps they shouldn’t have entered the competition.

  17. I was gutted that aiden left as I think he was brilliant, and so annoyed that it even went to deadlock! 4 times bottom two… hint hint
Think Simon gave him kiss of death when he said `see you next week`, everyone thought he would be safe.
Matt or One direction to win.

  18. Hi All
Just some constructive critisism for Cheryl, Wow last night you really out did yourself. You took personally something Wagner said, instead of being the adult and confronting him behind closed doors you had to shame him in on national tv, very sad and not very mature!
the bigger thing, would have been to speak to him personally about this, instead you acted like a BRAT:(
all my friends and i were fans, but we are no longer, that was very low. We feel for Wagner and even though his not a very good singer, he makes us alugh, and has childlike eyes. Louis you ROCK, Simon you need to see what it looks like from the outside as a viewer, Cheryl telling you off etc, no respect, she is a spoilt Brat. Danii rock on you are stable and just yourself!

    Comment by keah — Sunday, 21 November, 2010 @ 17:27

  19. how can cheryl vote when she couldnt be bothered the other week. She should have been banned for voting one of her acts. And louis should have let it go to public vote. Whole xfactor a joke. Paige so much better singer and why let a contestant sing a song that she already sung in the contest that she got most positive comments for. FIX FIX

    Comment by kaz nash — Sunday, 21 November, 2010 @ 21:11

  20. is this the X Factor or the Cheryl Cole show? We are sick to death of seeing Cheryl’s acts being put through in an effort to suck up to her. What is she anyway? Paije is by far the better act and should have stayed. What was Louie thinking about? EACH WEEK THE JUDGES DON’T STAND UP TO HER – WITH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION OF DANNI. what is the hold she has over Simon? Tons of people feel this way so why does she think she is something special?

    Comment by lynn senior — Sunday, 21 November, 2010 @ 21:13

  21. it’s a disgrace that judges allow such a mockery of the whole show, letting completely talentless person like Wagner stay, and voting really talented people off.this only, for us foreigners, shows the standard of the whole entertainment industry of UK

    Comment by jura — Sunday, 21 November, 2010 @ 21:29

  22. Mary is by far the best singer along with Rebecca & I am sure Simon knows that really. He is so fickle – he was all over her on her first audition!

    Comment by Alex — Monday, 22 November, 2010 @ 06:15

  23. DEATH OF X-FACTOR!!! Paige is gone, another good singer while THE brain battered judges choose to keep Katie and Cher Lloyd, for the sake of what i cant EXPLAIN at the moment, making the whole X- factor show a MOCKERY OF WHAT IT STANDS FOR. Since this how they want to play this game, I WOULD ADVICE THEY WHOLE PUBLIC TO KEEP VOTING WAGNER TO WIN to help them rubbish the show since its obvious thats what the judges was after right from the beginning of the show, they have been playing smart on the public ,manipulating the whole thing. Is this still a Talent show? i wonder. ,Am sure if Wagner finds himself at the bottom two,all he needs do is to sing and cry at the same time, then its obvious they will send rebecca home or anyone who was to able to cry
TO louis are u ok…how can you sleep after sending Paije home, she ought to have left him in the auditions to go in peace

    Comment by doris — Monday, 22 November, 2010 @ 16:28

  24. Sorry Louise but it doesn’t appear to be entirely fair and square. If the votes were genuinely because people find Wagner the best contestant then it would be fair but it is clear from all these websites that a load of people have got it into their heads to sabotage the vote by voting for Wagner just to spite the judges/producers/whoever.
What these short-sighted people haven’t worked out is that they are only damaging the genuine contestants for whom this is a once in aifetime opportunity.
Matt really shouldn’t sound off at Wagner, or anyone else, but actually it is not hard to understand his frustration when he sees the contest being damaged by these people.

  25. i know wagner is rated well in the public vote and i dont have a problem with him only the fact he cant sing but who are the morons who vote him in each week?are they the same people who watched mr blobby and noel edomnds?
i suspect yes .i say no more!
