The theme for this weeks X Factor is ‘big band’, and all the acts were supposed to be singing big band songs. But one act notably wasn’t – Jamie Archer, who instead performed Angel Of Harlem.
Jamie was supposed to be singing If I Can Dream, originally a hit for Elvis Presley. But after auditions last night, Jamie apparently had a massive row with Simon, who told him “you are finished if you sing that”. The decision was made to switch songs at the last minute.
But was it fair for Jamie to sing a song which played to his strengths but didn’t match the theme for the week when everyone had to sing big band? What do you think?
You can watch Jamie’s performance below.

go jamie jamie to win louis shut up

I don’t think it was fair. Every year contestants have to deal with themes that aren’t in-line with their strengths and run the risk of being booted.
Simon appeared to have exercised his authority as X-factor producer / creator to get special treatment for one of his acts.
Moreover, the purpose of the themes is to demonstrate the well-roundedness of the talent. That wasn’t achieved this week either by Simon pulling strings.
But would I boot Archer? No

NO ONE VOTE FOR THE TWINS!
Comment by Scarlett — Sunday, 25 October, 2009 @ 07:48
Jamie did a splendid job last night. Maybe it wasn’t Big Band but its the singing voice which matters. That is what will get the vote
But as for John and Edward. There’s not a lot to be said about such crappy entertainers. Would you pay money to go to see them? I am sure that I wouldn’t And what stupid hairstyles, they look as though they have had an electric shock

Simon Cowell made his first serious error this series by making Jamie sing a U2 song on Big Band week. It didn’t work at all as a Big Band number and has caused a lot of bad feeling all round. Why did Simon take 6 days to notice that he didn’t like Jamie’s song? What was he doing all week? All credit to Jamie though, he did the best he could do with the sing he was given in the limited time available. He will still get my vote.
Comment by Mark Mallinder — Sunday, 25 October, 2009 @ 10:03
Proud Mary is not a “big band” song either. It was originally by Creedence Clearwater Revival, hardly a “big band” group, so that’s two songs which weren’t orginally “big band” songs, not just Simon’s choice!
Comment by Chris — Sunday, 25 October, 2009 @ 11:12
I think Simon has done what comes naturally to him. CHEAT!! It’s unfair that he criticised other acts when his act didn’t even follow the rules. Obviously Jamie can’t sing Big Band… So will it be ok for other contestants to cheat when they can’t perform a particular style??
Simon criticises and knocks the confidence of the acts who he thinks are a danger to his own.
Jamie should stay this week – the twins should go!
Comment by MC — Sunday, 25 October, 2009 @ 11:35
Jamie is great but he should have sung ‘big band ‘last night like everyone else. Others struggled this week and might not have done if they were allowed to change the rules too. Disappointing!
Comment by Mary Geddes — Sunday, 25 October, 2009 @ 18:41
Don’t think anyone can comment on Jamie not doing Big Band. It was not “SWING” specific so Rachel sang Creedence Clearwater also covered by Tina Turner, Stacey sang Disney, John & Edward/Joe did Latin American!!!! Say no more.
Comment by Alison — Sunday, 25 October, 2009 @ 20:12
i hate the twins if their not gone this weekend i’m not watching the show anymore their just making a joke of the show

I remember that Cheryl Cole criticised the Candyrain the way they dress provocatively, and look she did it to her self. I know she is very beatiful but don’t judged other people.Simon is right.
Comment by Joy — Sunday, 25 October, 2009 @ 20:24
Just had a thought couldn’t Jamie have done Just A Gigolo/I Ain’t Got Nobody, the Dave Lee Roth version? Fun, Big Band & ROCK!!
Comment by Alison — Sunday, 25 October, 2009 @ 20:37
Simon, be careful of your words, You said if the twins will win , you will leave the country. ha! ha! ha! but I still love you, your the best.

Facts:
U2 wrote Angel of Harlem in homage to Billie Holiday, THE godess of big band music. The music was written with the intention of a big band sound, and was recorded with The Memphis Horns, who figure on maybe hundreds of big band style recordings.
Surely such a great authority on Irish music and on rock should know that, or am I missing something? Louis is just running a negativity campaign on Jamie, maybe because he wanted the Over 25 candidates.
The whole thing is pointless. Jamie Archer is building the base for a world-wide career. Being loyal to Simon through thick or thin is a huge, huge, huge advantage. This could be another X Factor season to see more than one finalist get a recording contract within a few days of the Grand Final. The precedent is Simon’s signing of Rhydian Roberts as soon as he realised that the winner was some forgettable kid called, erm, well… I’ve forgotten…

John and Edward, if you read this – take the hint. You are depriving really excellent acts, you cannot compare – leave.
Comment by Sooby — Sunday, 25 October, 2009 @ 23:45
Listen to the original track `Angels of Harlem` if I remember right ,very much writeen in the style of `Big Band` WITH the inclusion of Big Band instruments-ie: Trumpet, Sax etc…….. Some people really don`t know their music do they? Louis shut up.
Proud Mary? Big Band? no. Need i say more……..
Comment by Nikki Oztuna — Monday, 26 October, 2009 @ 10:14
Louis i hope to god someone brings this comment to your attention , you honestly need to get your facts right before opening your big worthless mouth U2 wrote Angel of Harlem in homage to Billie Holiday, THE godess of big band music. The music was written with the intention of a big band sound, and was recorded with The Memphis Horns, who figure on maybe hundreds of big band style recordings.

why if no one is voting for the twins are they still in
we turn the TV over when they are on.its not fair to them either they are only kids.
Also when will Simon get a decent presenter Dermot is dreadful and very insincere.
What happened to Kate
Comment by Susie — Monday, 26 October, 2009 @ 13:56
One, i have to agree Dermot is plastic, i would love his job, id do it for free, he has no charisma, in fact nothing. As far as the twins they should never been past the first round, they are a pair of muppets
Comment by john d rooney — Monday, 26 October, 2009 @ 16:05
There are some pretty arrogant sick-minded people who are voting for the twins, and I am definitely not talking about very young teen, even pre-teen girls who will always vote for kids like that. It’s not as organised as the “vote for the worst” campaigns that blight American Idol, but on the far smaller scale of The X-Factor it’s just as destructive.
Talented, brave people like Miss Frank, and, almost, Rachel, are having their lives ruined by despicable idiots, and there’s nothing that can be done about it. Let’s be honest: Miss Frank will probably never do anything I would want to listen to, but they are talented and were on a constant curve of improvement from the time they were first “assembled”. Their public will be deprived of the best of them, and can now only hope that Louis will follow up his statements about the girl’s future with an agency contract, at the very least. Having all your hopes invested in Louis putting his money where his mouth is is “high risk, low expectation”…
Comment by ThatOne — Monday, 26 October, 2009 @ 21:13
Note to Louis since when is She Bang not a pop song by Ricky Martin and a big band number. people in glass houses should not throw stones.
Comment by birdy — Tuesday, 27 October, 2009 @ 21:49
Is it just me or has anyone else noticed that Danyl has not got a very good voice. It seems he’s living on that great first performance, but all the time his confidence and performances far outweigh his voice. Think he and Simon are in denial big time. Having said that he’s way better than the twins. And yes Simon cheated by letting Jamie off doin a big band song. Using the Billie Holiday excuse is bending the idea behind it way too much. Been watching X Factor since it started and think this year its very close to becoming a joke
Comment by John — Friday, 30 October, 2009 @ 18:41
Is it me or is there a psychology to the order of the performances.. the twins always seem to be on near the end… is this a fix? are we so easy to control?
Are we nation of half wits that only vote for what is fresh in our minds??? Those twins would sound like a car crash and look like one if there were no circus act to wrap them in! How about singing???
…plus I think Louis has been bang out of order tonight… since when did he lead the world of ‘rock!’ …reading Kerrang and NME WOT?
Comment by Ali — Saturday, 31 October, 2009 @ 21:23
Note to Mr Walsh.
Can you remember the group ‘Same Difference’ that you slated mate.
Well at least they could sing, dance and do just about everything.
They had real talent.
You are left with two young people who should have never been let any where near a stage, let alone a singing competition.
This show is now an absolute joke, and I agree with others who have posted their views. Louis Walsh has single handedly ruined this show.
Who bribed him to put the PRATS through???
Makes you wonder!!!
Comment by Pete — Monday, 2 November, 2009 @ 00:29
I TOTALLY agree since when has ” SHE BANGS” been a big band number. Louis take note !!!!!!
Comment by Linda — Tuesday, 3 November, 2009 @ 13:58
just because a song is not not a rat pack song does not mean that it can not be performed on a big band week! no Angel of Harlem is not persay a big band song but then neither is she bangs!!
I don’t blame Louis for making the show a joke I blame all the judges for putting the terrible twins through in the first place thus alllowing Louis to show his sick sense of humour! – He only put them through to wind Simon up but eventually it will backfire.
