Fighting off stiff competition from the Jeff Buckley version of the same song, Alexandra Burke has won the Xmas number one with her debut single, Hallelujah.
Alexandra was so shocked she was unable to speak when she won the X Factor last week, so we can only wonder how gaining the top spot for Xmas will have left her feeling!
X Factor nearly-stars JLS have been dealt a massive blow to their chances of making it big – Simon Cowell’s Modest Management company, with whom all X Factor contestants are obliged to sign, are refusing to let them sign a contract with Louis Walsh.
Louis, who mentored JLS and brought Westlife and Boyzone to fame, is apparently furious at the decision, but resigned to their fate.
“I am upset, but JLS are a fantastic bunch of lads. I wish them well.
They are going to be without doubt the biggest band we have ever had on this show.”
There are reports that Sony BMG, who employ Simon Cowell, may still sign JLS, but at the moment nothing is definite.
Will Alexandra’s first single go to number one as her X Factor predecessors have? Let’s hope so, because this is probably the best X Factor winner’s single ever!
As had widely been predicted, Alexandra Burke won the X Factor 2008, with JLS in second place.
Alexandra was so emotional after her win that she could barely speak, managing only to say a thankyou to the judges, and to tell everyone at home that her single was ‘for everyone who voted for me’.
JLS were the perfect gentlemen in defeat, thanking everyone and commenting that they hoped they could still have a career in the music industry.
With Cheryl Cole as the victorious judge it means that after Dannii’s victory last year the rookie judge has again won the competition.
