Austin Drage Voted Off X Factor 2008

Another week, another Simon Cowell act out of the competition at the hands of Louis Walsh. Austin and Rachel Hylton made up the bottom two last night, with Austin singing “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” to try and stay in the competition.

Ultimately, Louis commented that he was putting Rachel through because she was a ‘raw talent’, although he also said of Austin “For me, he was one of the best singers tonight, so he can go out with his head held high”.

The decision leaves both Louis and Simon with just one act left each – JLS for Louis, and Eoghan Quigg for Simon.

  1. Oh I am so sorry Austin went out, I thought he was a really good singer! I had bad luck all that day because I fell over and broke my finger, I met somone who I really really liked and now I won’t ever see them again because I don’t have any way of contacting them! So hopefully I will have good luck today, and good luck to you too Austin! xox

  2. Hey austin,
I just want to say How shocked and upset i was to see you go, it wasn’t the right result last night rachel nor you didn’t deserve to be in the bottom two. Louis was out of order what he said to you about your likability what a load of rubbish Don’t worry though cause essex are behind you 100%

Keep on doing what you do best

    love ya

  3. There are no doubts that Louis Walsh is loosing it and I keep asking why he is still in Xfactor. The only reason he took off Austin was to get to Simon. I am wet to see what talent Rachael has got. Hope what happened to her last night will make her more humble.
For the incessant attacks on Daniel – I think it should be discouraged and just nipped at the very bud. Can I ask ‘Longface’ Louis and ‘grumpy’ Simon one question – by how much of thier money do they fund the Xfactor? The public does that and so should decide who view want to remain in the competition. I think they over step there boundaries and I keep wondering how Daniel gets ur after those onslaughts.
Love you Cheryl- keep protecting those lovely girls and lash out at any judges that fail to remember that they should judge the singing and not looks or who to dance for them. Good luck to my girls – Diana and Alexandra. JLS, keep the good work going – just for your senile mentor.

  4. I cant beleive Austin went over Rachel, load of rubbish!! he is a lot more versatile than Rachel and most of the other contestants. I cant beleive Daniel went through, he’s the worst singer by far, Also, has no one noticed that Laura puts on a voice when she sings, it comes and goes, very annoying, she sounds better when she doesnt put on that jazzy, Belinda from from big brother voice. I also want to know why Diana is praised so much, why does she always put her hands by her face?? it just looks weird and her voice sounds like she’s whispering and whining. It also gets increasingly annoying when Cheryl disrespects Simon, she’s really annoying, especially when shes cries at any sob story. I just hope the winner is chosen for their talent and not their sob story.

  5. it was an absolute disgrace last night to see poor Austin sent home by loius walsh! he is far more talented than rachel will ever be! it should have gone to deadlock , at least it would have been the publics vote not some pathetic vendetta between loius and simon , im disgusted! its a joke and this family wont be watching anymore!!

  7. i cant believe a talented guy like austin was voted off, and daniel still in, louis should have sent rachel home, she forgot the intro to the song, i think the reason why louis sent austin home, was to get one up on simon, which was childish, in my opinion.

  8. IMO both austin and rachel were below par……….well done to ruth, who was voted thru without relying on sympathy or ‘hometown’ votes!! And as for disco week, half of them didn’t even sing a disco song, never mind wear platforms and flares!!

  9. What on earth are the public doing having Austin in the sing off. It’s an absolute travesty. He was the complete package. He could sing, looked good and had a great presence on stage. I thought his performance of ‘Billie Jean’ was one of the best I’ve seen on X Factor. Saturday nights will not be the same without him in the show.

  10. Didn’t think that either rachel or austin were that good on the nite. Well done ruth!! No hometown support, but you still got through!! And as for disco week, half of them didn’t even sing a disco song, never mind wear flares or platforms!!

  11. no way should Austin have been sent home. I think Louis did it more to make Simon have one act left like him rather than thinking Rachel was better. It should have at least gone to the public vote

  12. That’s crap. Eoghan should go out!!!

    Comment by Milly — Monday, 3 November, 2008 @ 16:54

  13. Austion should not have went but rachel neither it is the public to blame here for voting for the wrong people nobody else to blame

    Comment by Sheila — Tuesday, 4 November, 2008 @ 22:51

  14. Rachel and austion should not have been in the bottom two but we have the public to blame for that. It should have been Daniel and Eoghan if it went on Talent. I do agree with the comment above about Diana why is the hand always up at her face, it is so annoying. noticed she had shoes on this week not copying Sandie shaw this week. JLS Alexandra Laura in my eyes are the three to beat.

  15. Very suprised that Austin was voted off the show, I really thought that he would have been one of the final three. Rachel is good but there is just something that I don’t like about her, can’t put my finger on it but she isn’t a likeable person, you need to be a good all rounder to have the x factor and she just doesn’t do it for me. I also think that if Eoghan was in another category Simon Cowell would absolutely pull him to pieces, I think he’s awful, he’s too young which results in him not having any fanciable appeal and he hits a lot of bum notes, but as the only Irish contender he’ll stay in the show until the bitter end as did the awful Macdonald brothers! One of Cheryls girls will win.

  16. what a shame austin out makes no sense, the show is a joke and the guests are ridiculous, simon begged for mariah carey and britney spears, they will see when we are going to protest over at their hotels, some tomotoes for the ex divas and x factor is over, i’m gutted!

  19. Never mind ‘I cant believe Austin went instead of Rachel’. What about Austin went instead of Daniel… Has the entire country gone mad or tone deaf. I will not be watching or supporting the show until the talentless Daniel Evans exits! Make it soon.

  21. He should have gone Eoghan should stay so should JLS

  22. Austin should still be in this competition, he has that something special, a difference in his voice. He is a born performer and don’t even go there about him not connecting with the audience, he is the only one that did. I wish him every success for the furture and pray that he does well, I’d buy his records any day! We’ve missed him this week. Good Luck!!!!

  23. I like Rachels voice but she needs to loose the attitude before she is going to succeed.

  27. Eoghan, lovely little lad, sweet voice but needs to mature I think. Would probably do well in theatre.

  28. What a fix! What a con! How on earth would Laura or Ruth have been in the sing off otherwise. Especially when Rachel was so obviously hopeless!

    Comment by Huw — Sunday, 9 November, 2008 @ 18:47

  29. It is annoying and pathetic of the public to keep voting for daniel when those who have real talent are getting voted off the show like laura on saturday night. I’m getting fed up with it and so must be the contestants it’s not fair to them. What is the point of keeping daniel in he’s not gonna win anyway.

  30. This years X Factor is a fix all the best acts are going and the rubbish ones are staying in. Whats going on?

    Comment by Natalie — Monday, 10 November, 2008 @ 14:22

  31. When did XFactor become a Pity Competition? Who ever has the saddest story gets voted through? Don’t get me wrong, I feel for the people who’ve had it rough or have suffered losses. However, this is a singing competition. If it were a pity competition then Leona should have been voted off to make way for someone with a sad story and half-way decent voice. Was this the logic being applied when voting off Austin?? He was one of the strongest voices this season out of either the boys or girls. This competion doesn’t make sense anymore. Simon….where’s the brutal honesty??

    Comment by Kevin — Monday, 10 November, 2008 @ 20:58

  32. Why is the British public so surprised that real talent like Austin and Laura are voted out when they have in the past put songs like Bob the Builder, The Wombles of Wimbledon and Ernie the Milkman at number one in the charts? Austin has more talent and humility in his little finger than Rachel has in her whole arrogant body. Her time would be better spent fighting to get her children back than fighting to become famous for having no talent. I find her presence in this competition offensive and won’t watch it again until she’s gone.

    Comment by Laura Stevens — Monday, 10 November, 2008 @ 22:59

  33. The judges just vote of the best talent to save their own acts, even when they are shit!
The show is a joke. A bad joke.

    Comment by Simon Bell — Wednesday, 12 November, 2008 @ 16:02

  34. Guys, there’s an easy answer to all this. If you’re outraged at the outcomes, if you’re as stupidly cross as me about Austin then amazing Laura being voted out, just lets stop watching the programme, itv will notice a ratings drop if we all do it. Lets turn to BBC and strictly where the voting of the judges reflects the talent by and large !!

    Comment by Laura — Thursday, 13 November, 2008 @ 21:13

  35. I am dissapointed that the X Factor is supposed to be a show for the public to decide who we would like to be the next new singer/band created. I dont think it is fair that when it gets to the last two that the judges vote for the person they dont like or because the judges are having a competition of who has the winner. I think it would be fair to put them straight to deadlock so that we know that it is fair and the singers that the public voted to go off will actually go. I am at the moment thinking of not watching the x factor any more because of this situation and i strongly feel that others out their will agree. I think Austin should have stayed i was outraged by his departure. Daniel shouldn’t have gone tonight i strongly feel Rachel needs to go and thats a fact, I used to enjoy this show now my feelings towards it have totally changed.
