Watch Last Night’s Performances

X Factor 2007 has been an emotional journey for everyone, and it seems that the choices the public made aren’t necessarily the ones people thought that would.

Watch performances by all three contestants, and don’t forget to vote in our poll!

Firstly, Same Difference opened the show with a very festive song:

Rhydian was the favourite to win the show..

But ultimately the underdog succeeded – the winner of X Factor 2007, Leon!

  1. What a lot of sour comments, the best man on the night won, and that was leon, rhydian was good, and holds a differant audiance to leon, and will have a good recording future ahead of him,but people should`nt have assumed he would win,the underdog was as good on the night therefore should be congratulated and given a fair chance,

  2. Well said Carol. You are the only person that has called it spot on.There is too much moaning going on about Rhydian and SD.The point is Leon walks away with the record contract and it stick in the throats of some people.Good luck Leon…The single will be at number one for christmas.

  3. I thought this competition was about talent and finding someone who was special! Not a decent singer who sounds exactly like a lot of other artists out there. X Factor?? I think not! It was too much swayed by the judges to be a scotland Vs Wales and mmm which one has the biggest population! Was a joke.

    Comment by Debbie — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 15:11

  4. Rhydian definately should have won. Anyone who thinks Leon should win must be tone deaf and blind. It was like a kid singing, or trying to,while out at the Karaoke with his mates.I tried over thirty times to vote and couldn’t get through once.

  5. It’s not a fair chance when the inferieur singer wins.

What’s the point in such a competition when the prize goes to someone who’s not fit for it.

I just cannot see what thepoint of it was since the judges steered public opinion right away from the one with talent.

  6. Rhydian deserved to win he was brilliant every week leon nice lad but not good enough to win will not be buying his record will wait for rhydian some one will snap him up world class

  7. I am so upset after watching the final of the X Factor, it had been a horrendous day for me spending most of my afternoon in Accident and Emergency however I settled down in the evening to watch the final and was overwhelmed by Rhydian’s performance, I haven’t had chance to watch every week as I’m a carer and so I catch ‘pieces’ of the show at different peoples houses but the only one who has caught my attention throughout is Rhydian, what an amazing voice he is absolutely world class, so never mind the mindless general voting public out there come on you West End producers snap Rhydian up he has that Xtra something that makes him stand out from the rest give him the chance he deserves prove to the world he’s got what it takes.

    Comment by Jane White — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 16:41

  8. Thought last nights result was a joke.
Rhydian was by far the better all round performer.
Baby faced Leon had a great video but what a joke.

  9. Rhydian was great every week and Leon’s performances
were very in and out. Both will probably do well
but Rhydian deserved to win. Enjoyed Same
Difference as well but Rhydian 2nd, what a joke.
Rhydian always had the X Factor which is what the show
    is all about !

    Comment by marjorie white — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 16:57

  10. it is very clear. Rhydian was already at his peak and his peformance no longer go beyond “world class” and it protrays as predictable and uninteresting. Leon still has lots to give and give a good pleasantly surprising interpretation of “when you believe”. The original was sang by two female singers. This is a really tough song, especially only sang solely by one male singer. Leon did a good job and deserve to be a winner by that performance!! well done! ;)

    Comment by Kai — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 18:05

  11. I have never seen a singer ‘move’ my better half like Rhyddian does (she is a trained singer and usually too over critical if anything!!). This young man is a real talent and I suppose we should thank the X factor for uncovering him!

Having said that — the result last night — a joke. Leon seems like a nice lad and am sure that he has made his family and friends very proud. It still doesn’t make the result fair ……….. you would have to be tone deaf not to notice the flat notes! I hope that they spend some quality time with him over the coming months and don’t just set him up for a fall and then dump him!

Must admit, I don’t think that the duet with Catherine Jenkins did Rhyddian any favours – it made us cringe (sorry if you like her) — she ‘appeared’ to over power Rhyddian, but as anyone who knows sound systems knows the man at the sound desk has the responsibility to get those settings right …….

I know that it was Rhyddian’s dream to sing with her , but the voices really didn’t blend at all and it was not good.

Oh well, I am off to Utube to listen to a very extraordinary talented young man — and his name is not Leon!

PS We are not Welsh ——–

    Comment by Mick — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 19:03

  12. I am not taking anything away from Leon, good for him but… what went on with the phone lines in Wales last night. There have been so many complaints that so many people could not get through for nearly an hour and then it was too late. We tried on the NTL phone, BT, via NTL on the tv and the internet and eventually got through on a mobile. i just wonder if Scotland had so many problems as Wales trying to register votes. Rhydian wil go far and is already a star even without a recording contract

    Comment by Dean — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 19:26

  13. I could not get through to vote for Rhydian -lines all engaged all evening

Rhydian should have won. Quality and consistent performance . I will buy his record when it comes out, but will not buy the others.

  14. People are complaining that they couldnt get through to vote for Rhydian do they not think it could have been cause all his family friends and footie mates etc etc were trying at the time too!!!

    Comment by Charmaine — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 19:44

  15. What – can’t believe it!! Rhydian 2nd? His singing throughout was absolutely amazing, and a joy to listen to. TOTALLY GUTTED!

    Comment by Teresa — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 19:46

  16. What a load rubbish the voting was, the only good thing about Leon McBoring’s songs was that it was a chance of getting to the bathroom or kitchen without missing anything interesting. I for one have no interest in seeing or hearing anything from this “winner” again and just hope he fades away into obscurity like most of the previous years winners

    Comment by phil r — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 20:10

  17. Leon was brilliant and deserved to win. Rhydian was great as well but had an operatic tune to all of his songs and will do well in the theatre. Leon has the look and voice for “normal” pop songs. Good luck to them both and I hope Leons song goes to No 1…..

  22. What a joke Leon winning, I’ve heard better pub singers.Simon gave it away when he called Rhydian ‘Leon’ I said straight away Leon is the winner after simons slip-up!

I was disgusted with the telephone vote I tried for 35 mins to get through but I could not vote as the lines were busy, so I wonder how many other people did’nt get the chance to vote for Rhydian?

I believe it was a fix and the show should now be called THE FIX FACTOR……… No more watching the show for me…….

  23. I feel Rhydian should have won, throughout the competition he has been consistant and fantastic. Leon has improved the most but this is about a talent competition and Rhydian is the most talented and has performed the most consistant unlike Leon, he is good but I think he should have come second. After this competion you have to worry about Leon whether he will continue to make it, I feel with Rhydian you will never have to worry as he so talented and a world class artist so therefore should of won on the night. He was better, sorry Leon but he was.

    Comment by catherine — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 21:39

  24. Rhydian is a star performer and has had the advantage of professional training. Leon is new to this and has potential. Same Difference are wholesome fun, refreshing, and a pleasure to watch.

My own personal preference was for Rhydian.

I believe Same Difference have a great future. I hope Leon will not be hurt by the unkind remarks on other parts of this blog which I think are uncalled for.

They will all succeed in their careers according to their talent and commitment, regardless of who ‘won’.

    Good night everyone !

    Caz.

  25. Llongyfarchiadau Rhydian – you’re a star ! You have given so much pleasure to the nation over these last few weeks by sharing with us the wonderful gift of your beuatiful voice. This is just the beginning for you – stick to your principles – you are right – and all things will work together for good. Can’t wait to see what you do next ! God bless you. Caz.

  26. Well done Leon Jackson.Look forward to a long and successful career.Try not to take notice of the negative comments from people who should know better, especially on this site!!!!

    Comment by David — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 23:18

  27. I think i counted 24 tines that Leon was either out of tune or off tone in his first performance of the new single. And his White Christmas was virtually completely out of tune. But then I have a decent music system!!!!!!!!!

Compare anything of his to Leona Lewis’ ‘Summer Time’ and even Rid’s pretty good vocals are not there yet.

OK the best vocalists generally do not win Nikki/Rid/Bev this year or Maria year before last.

I might even enter next year and I know I can only sing two songs, but based in the this year that should be enough.

    Comment by Les Oxley — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 01:30

  28. Rhydian was SO clearly the much much better performance. His voice was absolutely stunning. I think he’s a really sweet guy. I watched all the footage of him, and he’s polite, intelligent, professional, seems very sincere, is willing to make fun of himself. Yes, he’s ambitious, but he’s honest about that, and I think fair play to him. I think the media were horrible to him in previous rounds. I’m genuinely really gutted that he didn’t win. It sounds to me like the phone-lines were jammed on purpose. Perhaps Simon Cowell has other plans for Rhydian? I hope he gets a fantastic career out of this experience, he totally deserves it – THE most amazing voice. I hate to say it, but I thought Leon was very average. Worst winner of the X factor in all its history, I’d say. In terms of arrogance, I think he has a lot more of it than Rhydian. The X factor may have created a monster – once the fame goes to his head, he’ll probably emerge as a nasty little thug.

    Comment by Lara — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 04:57

  29. I agree, Lara (comment 22). I think Leon has the makings of being a right arrogant little blighter. Something about him made me think that the success of winning will not do his personality any favours.

I’m also GUTTED that Rhydian didn’t win. He was fabulous, wonderful, superb. In all the live shows, he put on such an amazing performance and really put his heart and soul into it. OK, he didn’t improve as much as some of the others, but it’s not really fair to penalise him on that – I mean, his voice has been perfect all along, so what was there to improve?

The judges on the X factor will say it’s the public’s fault for not voting, but I tried to vote for Rhydian several times on Saturday and couldn’t get through because the lines were busy. Surely the X factor makes enough money to be able to afford a better system than that…..

    Comment by Jeff — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 05:03

  30. SO disappointed Rhydian didn’t win. Disgraceful. Such a charming, sweet, sincere, self-deprecating, lovely chap. Very professional. Very honest – yes, he’s ambitious, so what. His voice is like an angel, I LOVED all his performances in the live shows, and I think it’s a DISGRACE he didn’t win.

Didn’t like Leon. Think he has the potential to turn into a right little thug. And his voice is very average. He’s not even in the same league as Rhydian.

I tried to vote for Rhydian – phone lines jammed. Grrr. So clearly a fix. Not going to watch X factor again – tired of being manipulated by the show. If they really wanted it to be judged by the public, they would sort out their phone lines. Shame on them.

    Comment by Lara — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 05:08

  31. I certainly won’t be buying Leon’s single.

    Comment by James — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 05:16

  32. I think that the judges really need to explain what this contest is all about, correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought x factor started it was a singing competition first and formost and give a chance for people of most ages then that bit of something special, different you know that iceing on the cake, stands out from the rest. This year they have made a big mistake, and lost a lot of credability, for it is now the judges want more limelight than the contestants, the judges say that one contestant has been consistantly WORLD CLASS where the other has been very up and down, then says after result the winner deserved it ?!? so lets be honest it’s not a talent contest, it’s an image and a rags to riches contest, which then YES leon is the winner. sorry to all the leon fans cos this will sting, he’s a nice chap, but is an average singer at best, and ray quinn is much better as a crooner. What I will feel sorry for is after the x factor traditional x-mas No.1 is reality kicks in, and the people who voted 10,20 times will at best buy leon’s cd once, or even download it for free and then move on to next years rags to riches sob story.

    Comment by deano — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 10:14

  33. and before the leon fans get all narky,NO I did not vote for any of them as all the finalists were not my cup of tea. But be honest, even Mr cowell said of same difference he picked them because of marketing purposes not because of talent, with the exception of steve brookstein, it’s all rags to riches story’s and very predictable most of the time their fav to win gets beaten by the underdog. I was even in a shop when two women were saying they have been watching every week and were voting for leon because rhydian looks like he has got a bit of money.

    Comment by deano — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 10:34

  34. What was that all about, i thought that was supposed to be called the x factor well it certainly did not do it for me , leon was no way the better one rhydian was amazin and was consistant all the way through even same difference where a good bit of fun. i shall not be watchin it anymore it was very disaponting.

    Comment by kim — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 12:12

  35. Good luck to you Leon, this show is about making someones dreams become reality and its happened to you Ryhdian is going to be famous anyway and was a bit too big for his boots i think, if you wasnt crowned the winner you may have been back in the clothes shop, this way there are two winners with great careers ahead.

    Comment by LEE RILEY — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 13:34

  36. What a lot of rubbish, Leon winning what a joke, all it was was a big money getter like fools we all joined in and filled the coffers of the programme makers

Rhydian was the only one, and they should have stopped trying to make it world war three.

    Comment by MOIRA HANAPHY — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 14:01

  37. A farce from start to finish apart from rydian I have heard better singers at a karaoke and as for Kathrine Jenkins may i never hear her rendition of Raise me up ever again

    Comment by Mac — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 15:25

  38. I couldn’t believe the result. I thought it was a ‘talent contest’ as the judges do remind us and therefore Rhydian should have won. I think Niki should have been in the final 3. I was worried when Simon made that ‘gaff’ by calling Ryhdian – Leon – that something was amiss. I was able to vote but IF people in Wales couldn’t then I am worried that this was somehow rigged!! Leon is a nice young man BUT he is an average singer and most of the time I thought he was ‘flat’ or out of tune. Sorry but wrong result. Good luck to Rhydian!

    Comment by Lynn Faulkner — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 16:12

  39. As an ex musician and singer I am amazed that Leon made it through the past several shows!. Some of his performances were painfull. The judges seemed reluctant to be critical of him even when he sang as flat as a pancake.
Whilst I didnt personally like all of Rhydians song choices throughout the series, you would have to be tone deaf not to hear he has a wonderfull voice.Either a lot of silly people voted for Leon because he is “Little and Cuddly” ahhh! or its a fix.The only consolation is Rhydian will get snapped up and have a great future, here and possibly in the States. John

  40. Just to add ,If people talk about most improvement through the show, what about “Same Difference”.The first week i saw the in the studio I thought they were very cheesy and quite poor vocally, but week by week they turned into a really proffesional act.I do think they could sell a lot of records to the younger end of the market . They seem like really nice Kids too.john

  41. Rhydian you are amazing, I’m sorry my phone land line was engaged all evening but I managed to vote via my mobile. We are all waiting for your album. I’ve never watched X Factor before but your fantastic voice had me watching the replays as well. Good luck and God Bless.

  42. Rhydian, if you ever read this mate, you are ‘the dogs b******s!’ in other words- the best, most talented guy to ever perform on the X factor stage. You will be around for along time to come!!!!!
    And as for Leon……….Leon who?????

    Comment by Marco Megaminis — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 18:13

  43. I tried all through the show to vote for Rhydian but could not get through – and I dont live in Wales. Im sure leon will be great in a couple of years time, but agree that the result was obviously not what the show was supposed to be about – too much Scotland vs Wales and not enough about the real talent!

    Comment by Shirley — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 19:18

  44. This is my last comment, yes Leon won, he was most improved and got a contract he was not the best vocals by far Rhydian was and while everyone on this is giving their opinions we all know same differance and Rhydian will get a contract that will last, I find it unfair they used england vs scotland vs wales, however now leon unfortunaltly will suffer as I heard many Welsh radio stations are now refusing to play his single untill a recount, fair enough they are in their every right to do so but who will it help??
Rhydian was the best when they showed the two of the lads singing the same part you could clearly see the vocal differance, leon will have a small audiance i feel as hell be placed straight into the pop catagory where as Rhydian and same differance will go into various areas because they seemed to be the most variable (come on who really can pull of the scissor sisters?)
I just basically want to congratulate all of them for being brave enough to get up on stage and sing to that amount of people I wouldnt be able to and they all deserve respect :)
DDA IAWN RHYDIAN GOBETHIO BOD TIN CAEL NADOLIG LLAWEN A BLWYDDYN NEWYDD DDA!!!
WELL DONE RHYDIAN HOPE YOULL HAVE A HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
That also goes for eveyone on xfactor too :P

he’s good at. leon has everything
a good voice, good looks and the x factor : )
    well done leon !!!!!!!!!!

  46. I totally agree with Mick that Katherine Jenkins’ Voice overpowered Rhydians, and using her as a singin companion was not that too great a choice. They both sang on the same key xcept that Jenking’s voice was higher than his. They should have duetted in an alto Vs Tenor version. However ,Rhydian Roberts is undoubtedly World Class. What Gave it away was scottish power behind Leon and also performance with Kylie.

    Comment by lunmsy — Tuesday, 18 December, 2007 @ 14:42

  47. Michele McManus winning Pop Idol ended that programme and Simon Cowell had to look for another format. Leon winning X Factor will probably result in the same situation. I cannot remember so much furore over a reality television talent contest result.

Most of the comments on this blog have been overwhelmingly in favour of Rhydian and quite rightly so. One contributor said we should not “slag off” Leon. This is however a country which prides itself on freedom of speech. Most commentators agree that Leon has a short term life span as a successful performer. He certainly has not shown consistent singing talent.
All those people I know who have professional music experience agree that he cannot hold a tune. Those that think he can should go for singing lessons. I feel sorry for Leon and worry what the psychological effect will be on him when he has a failed musical career like Nikki.

It seems Rhydian did not need to win as Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber had already been in discussions with him about starring on Broadway in a revised version of “Phantom”. It did not take an expert to work out that Rhydian was world class and just needed an opportunity to show what he was capable of.

Those who label him as an opera singer and a one trick pony obviously have no idea regarding the genre of opera. Throughout the competition Rhydian successfully mastered a number of vocal styles. Sharon actually complimenteed him on bringing a contemporary feel to “When you believe”.

Initially I was very angry that Rhydian had not won the X Factor but on reflection it is probably the best thing that could have happened. The One Million Pound contract with Simon Cowell would have restricted his short term options. Now he can play the field.

Rhydian you made X Factor 2007 very special. You were in a class of your own. The rest of the contestants were distinctly average and probably means that there is not enough talent to justify any more series for at least five years.

The comments of people angry because Leon won are not whingers. They belong to the majority who recognise injustice when they see it. Ironically I think history will prove that this injustice will be the stepping stone for Rhydian to international stardom.

  48. Well said Peter (above) I agree entirely with your comment, I wanted to say more or less the same thing but you have put it across much better than I would have! Go Rhydian!

  52. 1. Leon sings in tune – he sometimes slips into the minor key, probably through inexperience, but its bluesey and jazzy.

    2. The great British public recognise that he is the only one that is different i.e. he has the ‘X Factor’.
