Same Difference Third in X Factor 2007

As the end of X Factor 2007 closes in there are just two performances left to go, which means the third-place act was announced. That act was Same Difference.

The competition now continues with both Leon and Rhydian to sing one more song - both of whom are mentored by Dannii Minogue, who is now guaranteed to win the competition.

  1. wat a fix i think they should check the phone lines leon was crap tonight maybe its becouse he sang with kylie…

    Comment by ian — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 21:58

  2. they were truly horrendous

    Comment by harriet — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:07

  3. When I was ringing the vote line for X Factor tonight it was telling me that my vote was registered for ‘Britain Sings - White Christmas’. That’s not very accurate is it? Has anyone else had the same experience?

    Comment by Glenn — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:16

  4. I think the Christmas single is a real let down. Probably the worst song I have heard on the show.

    Comment by Andy Richards — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:20

  5. Come on Leon everyone in Scotland is rooting for u. u can do it son

    Comment by scotish haza — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:23

  6. u dnt no wat ur talkin bout ian

    Comment by scotish haza — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:24

  7. Very disappointed in what will be the new number one.Love both Rydian and Leon in different ways.I think that Rydian has great potential and would love to meet him if he ever comes to Donegal.

    Comment by Mary Doherty — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:31

  8. exactly wat i mean glenn who was u voting for by the way if u want to say….

    Comment by ian — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:37

  9. I cannot believe the result, this is so disappointing. It so needs a recount. Rhydian is heads and shoulders above Leon.

    Comment by Tracey — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:37

  10. How obvious was it that the final was fixed? Leon is so rubbish! It doesn’t matter how many times we get told how wonderful he is, he is crap. I am so disillusioned by all this deceit.

    Comment by George — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:38

  11. yes but tracey he’s welsh now come on…lol

    Comment by ian — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:39

  12. Leon - never - he was out of tune.It must have been the Kylie factor

    Comment by Keith Aldridge — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:41

  13. Leon sucks. What a let down. It is obviously decided beforehand. Rhydian spent the night thanking everyone like he knew he lost already.

    Comment by Edan — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:42

  14. I tried about 10 times to get through to vote for Rhydian but the line was constantly engaged!!!!!! Totally unfair.

    Comment by Linda — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:42

  15. you watch just after xmas same difference will bring an album out and out sell leon twice over … and so they should….

    Comment by ian — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:45

  16. Leon can’t sing. He is out of tune, too nervous and about as charismatic as a bag of potatoes. Rhydian is in a league of his own, a male version of Leona. How many times am I going to get suckered in to believe my vote counts?

    Comment by Lee — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:45

  17. The Emperor is not wearing any clothes: Leon can’t sing. How did he win? What a set up. Thank God that demented female from Same Difference got booted out. Her brother would have a beter career on his own.

    Comment by John — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 22:51

  18. i’m absolutely disgusted. when you phone 4 times before you get through because “The Network Is Busy”

The best singer lost but his dignity in undeserved defeat was magnificent.

i’m sorry but i could never buy a cd of Leon’s because he’s not good enough in my eyes.

i’m so disgusted that i would never watch this programme again because the result has obviously been manufactured.

    Comment by declan sammon — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 23:07

  19. Sorry Leon…but you did not deserve to win. Rhydian outsang you totally and his rendition of the Christmas single brought tears to my eyes whilst your version left me totally unmoved.

Phone lines were described as busy on 5 occasions!

    Comment by Linda — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 23:14

  20. Simon Cowell, you need to take drastic action here. The best man did not win tonight and the public (and you) know it. Phone lines were busy and your programme has now gone down the pan. Forget about another series, the public won’t be with you.

p.s. Give Rhydian a good record deal, release a CD and the public will buy in their millions.

    Comment by Joe — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 23:28

  21. I agree, I would buy an album by Rhydian now but I would never buy one by Leon. He is second rate, FRhydian is world class

    Comment by Andy Richards — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 23:49

  22. BBC will be laughing all the way..what a miserably cock up by ITV. The result stinks.

    Comment by Fixer — Saturday, 15 December, 2007 @ 23:53

  23. What happened? Leon was flat flat flat and Rhydian was FANTASTIC AND BRILLIANT AND CAN ACTUALLY SING. Where can we get Rhydian’s songs for download? Simon Cowell - your show was a joke letting a guy who can’t sing win. Sorry very disappointed. Won’t be buying a thing from Leon.

    Comment by James & Emma — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 00:00

  24. I was stunned at the result.Rhydian was outstanding tonight and has been every week.Leon has had many weak performances but Scotland kept him in.It was totally out of order to show the clip with Sharon insulting him on the first auditions.Leon must have had sympathy votes for his sob story.Again a strong possibility that it was fixed -they must think that the public are thick as two short planks!!!Dont worry Rhydian your talent will take you far you have no worries,Good Luck. All of Wales are proud of you ! Bendigedig!

    Comment by Rhian Jones — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 00:06

  25. What was up with Danni? Favouritism or what

    Comment by Joe — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 00:21

  26. I’m so angry with this TV fix - up

    Comment by Joe — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 00:23

  27. Good Luck Same Difference, I know you must have been disappointed but you are extremely talented. Get the right song and sing to the audience (instead of each other) and you will have a very successful career ahead of you. Good Luck I wait to see your names in the charts!

    Comment by Gina — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 00:37

  28. leon should of gone last week nicky should of been in final

    Comment by sue — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 02:54

  29. leon should of been out weeks ago.

    Comment by sue — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 02:55

  30. To all those bad LOSERS out there. The title is coming back to Scotland.I have never witnessed so much moaning.Leon was the winner. The votes were not fixed and just take it on the chin….Throughout the evening we had Simon Cowell trying to tell England to vote for SD.Please let England win something!!!and as it turns out Scotland and our Leon Smacked your backside!!!It gives me great pleasure to tell you “i told you so!!!”.Scotland 1 England 0 Wales 0…….

    Comment by David — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 03:02

  31. The result was fixed. ITV wanted the most marketable Christmas song to get to No 1 and that was never going to be Rhydian despite being far the better singer throughout the show.

The show should now be axed as it has lost all it’s credibility

    Comment by Graham — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 10:57

  32. Not only are most right-minded members of the public stunned at the result but clearly Leon was too.
After his rendition of the new single it was so clear on his face that he knew he had given a poor performance and that he was terrified it would have let him down.
How so many people could be led into believing that he is fit to deserve a £1m record deal so early in his career is utterly beyond me.
The boy should be allowed to go home and learn and mature a bit before being exposed to the public.
As it is any career ha might be capable of could well be ruined by this exposure too soon.

    Comment by Theresa — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 10:57

  33. Well techincally its England 3, Scotland 1 and Wales 0.

    Comment by Jessie — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 11:43

  34. Leon did not deserve to win it was all a fixed or he won coz of the scotish vote.he is a looser and will never be a success.Ryhdian is much betta and will be a much bigger success and good luck to him.I cnt believe he won he was so out of tune.Rhydian had a unique style of singing and was 100 times betta!
I would of prefered same difference in the finale rather than Leon!

    Comment by Alisha — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 12:06

  35. Yes it was fixed Leon sang his final song and there was an advert break for his fans to phone in yet again. Rhydian sang his final song and the phone lines closed. How fair is that?

    Comment by Richard — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 12:46

  36. i cant believe that rhydian did not win. you only needed to watch the highlights of the other shows to see his talent. he delivered week after week and somewhere could be a hit now…… if they dont get him signed now its such a waste. yes put him in the west end but dont hide him away. leon im sorry for cause i dont think he will cope with the negativity of show business.

    Comment by suzanne lancs — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 13:05

  37. same difference are winners, as for Leon come on no way was he a winner FIX FIX FIX, if your going to pick the best do it right,

    Comment by John Kirwan — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 14:35

  38. It was very clear a long time ago that Rhydian was the best and most consistent singer. Leon was VERY hit and miss throughout the competition and at best has an OK voice. Who cares if he looks cute - is that the defining quality of ‘the X factor’? And why turn this into some nationalistic competition when it’s about talent, not nationality? The sheer difference in the size of the populations of these nations skews the whole thing if you’re asking people to vote for the singer of their own nation! And if people couldn’t vote for Rhydian as the lines were engaged, then all lines should have been closed until the situation was resolved, as it’s fairness that counts, above the need to have a winner within the scheduled timeslot. I know this would have made things difficult for ITV, but any other outcome while there was a problem with the voting line clearly leads to an unfair and biased result. I have put in a complaint to Ofcom about this matter, and suggest others do the same. Oh, and by the way, the judges CLEARLY knew the outcome BEFORE the lines were closed, as evidenced by their comments about Rhydian’s final performance. Another question for Ofcom’s investigation.

    Comment by Anna — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 15:32

  39. What a tavesty couldnt get through to vote then a flat no hoper wins anyhow . I can only imagine that so many people will be disappointed in this result that they like me will be giving the show a wide berth in the future

    Comment by gary — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 16:00

  40. What a fix - tried 7 times to get through to Rydian but lines were engaged. Leon was out of tune as usual and definitely doesn’t have the x factor he should never have won.

    Comment by Gay Taylor — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 16:10

  41. RESULT: Congrats Leon. XMAS SONG: What an awful song. JUDGES: Sharon eX Factor: THE FUTURE: Duet with Leon and Leona. SAME DIFFERENCE: Bless you both - hope all goes well for you.

    Comment by Tony — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 16:10

  42. Speaking as a devoted mother, TOTALLY LOVED SAME DIFFERENCE. Hope very much they carry on and make a career out of this. There’s a huge “under 12’s” capture gap in the market. Since the likes of SClub7 and Steps are no more. Same Difference could easily fill that gap. It’s there for the taking, and it couldn’t go to more deserving people. They’re also the perfect kind of wholesome people you want influencing and your kids aspiring to. Instead of all the drugs, alcoholism, and hooliganism and general disorderly conduct you frequently see plaguing our youngsters today. This so called reckless “cool” behaviour makes me ashamed to call myself British. Same Difference have brought back a bit of fun and pride for us Brits.

    Comment by Maxine — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 17:18

  43. BOYCOTT THE SINGLE & AXE THE X FACTOR! Too many people have been disappointed & angry this year.

    Comment by Sue — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 17:42

  44. Complete fix.

The resuly was utter horse shit - orchestrated by suits that think they know what will make them more money.

Leon, sorry mate but you can;t hold a tune and your voice is flat as a pancake. You also can;t dance and are about as fun as a weekend in Glasgow, in the rain, crying.

Total fix, and Dermot O’leary also dishonoured himself by daring to say that “There is only 1% in it!!!” just before the commercial.

I won’t go on anymore, but everything about that Final was a disgrace.

    Comment by Matt — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 17:50

  45. feel sorry for Leon - his singing was so bad and with his obvious lack of X factor he’ll be eaten alive!! When is Rhydian getting a recording contract - I wanted to buy it for Christmas presents, but I’ll wait. Certainly not wasting my money on Leon’s CD!

    Comment by GS Glasgow — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 18:34

  46. What a joke!the programme has now lost all its credibility,it was pretty obvious to anyone with just a modicum of musical nous that talent wise Rhydian was head and shoulders above the other contestants and yet he did not win!lets have some explanations please Personally I shan’t bother watching any future series.the word conspiracy comes to mind.

    Comment by Glyn Lewis — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 19:12

  47. what a load of rubbish leon should of been third in my opinion definitely wont be watching next year what a fix

    Comment by will — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 19:26

  48. Leon Was awful the biggest money spinner short term for simon cowell was same difference they were robbed of the title and rhydian is some freaky dude with long term goals

    Comment by Craig — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 20:53

  49. I agree, BOYCOTT the single! Rhydian was by far the most talented and deserved to win. My friends and I all tried to vote for him and the lines were engaged…was this a FIX? Keep Leona at number 1 instead!

    Comment by Harry — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 20:53

  50. hey remember david sneddon from fame academy, he was crap to and where is he now ? he shall be known to me as leon the loser and i will be surprised if he is still knocking about this time next year

    Comment by Craig — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 20:56

  51. Think that Rhydian was the real winner but loved to watch Same Difference. What a lovely, genuine pair.
Why do people moan that they are happy —– it is just so refreshing!

Good luck to you both ———-

    Comment by Mick — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 20:59

  52. What a load of sour grapes from everyone. Rhydian and Leon are both fantastic singers and both have had ups and downs in different ways. Anyone who says either of them can’t sing haven’t been listening. Whatever happened in the final, both singers have the potential for huge careers and finally, the programme may be known as a singing competition, but it is called the X Factor, and any contestant who can win over voters to the extent that they love him and root for him even when he’s not performed to his best ability clearly has plenty of X Factor. Well done to both of them.

    Comment by Pam — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 21:14

  53. Llongyfarchiadau Rhydian - you’re a star ! You have given so much pleasure to the nation over these last few weeks by sharing with us the wonderful gift of your beuatiful voice. This is just the beginning for you - stick to your principles - you are right - and all things will work together for good. Can’t wait to see what you do next ! God bless you. Caz.

    Comment by CAZ — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 21:36

  54. A total fix. Westlife mentioned in an interview before the show even started that there was going to be a shock in X Factor. This together with comments made by the judges during the show bears this out.

The show has lost all creditability, and I will not be watching it again.

The voting is now as bad as the Eurovision Song Contest, and that’s a farce nation v nation.

    Comment by John — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 21:49

  55. leon and rhyd are so far up there own arses look what shit has come from scotland so far eh wet wet wet, deacon blue, proclaimers so it won`t matter that leon won then another crap product from scotland who i`m sure has genital warts by the way he prances around on stage in the wrong key

    Comment by Rhys — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 21:50

  56. Well done Same Difference. You are refreshing, wholesome, fun, and a pleasure to watch.
I think you will go far.
    Good luck.

    Comment by CAZ — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 22:12

  57. I am now an ex-watcher of the X Factor. This was a fix Leon hardly hit a note right, whereas Rhydian was his usual polished self. Simon Cowell the show is now washed up.

Leon was awful all the way through, his performance with Kylie Minogue was a sad old tart and a talentless very ordinary singer, making a row on stage.

If this gets to No.1, it speaks volumes about the lack of talent in the pop music industry.

    Comment by Mike — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 22:16

  58. What a travesty, for a moment I thought I was watching the European Song Contest with its farcical voting based on regions rather than talent encouraged by the judges. I don’t have to be a great singer, my ears tell me that Leon was a flat as a pancake was flat at times and that the greater talent of Rhydian was let down.

    Comment by alan wishlade jones — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 22:28

  59. PATHETIC!!!!! I don’t understand the comments about people being deaf if they voted for Leon. The Rhydian fans seem to think that Leon can’t sing. How do you explain the comments that Rhydian made after the show!!! “Leon sang with his idol, michael buble this week and infact he was better than him”.Are you trying to tell me that Rhydian is deaf as well.Rhydian is a young gentleman who took defeat with grace. He is and will prove to be a big star and most of Leons’ fans would agree with this. Why not wish Leon well for the future instead of trying to crush him with your pathetic comments.Take a look at the way Rhydian conducts himself and try to follow his example…..

    Comment by David — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 23:11

  60. I am Scottish through and through BUT Leon should have NEVER won he sang out og tune all the way through

    Comment by maggie — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 03:42

  61. I am scottish through and through BUT Leon shouldnt have won he sang out of tune all the way through

    Comment by maggie — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 03:43

  62. What a calamity. Rhydian was MILES better than crappy little Leon, who should have been voted off weeks ago. Simon Cowell, please give Rhydian a contract and watch how his record sales make you another fortune, the man has the voice of an angel. Leon was utterly average, and the worst winner of the x factor in any series so far. He’s made a mockery out of the show. The x factor MUST sort out the phone-line situation. How can it be the public who decide when we cannot get through??

    Comment by James — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 05:22

  63. Not saying leon didn’t need it but i think same difference deserved it. They were fun, enjoyable and should have won! I hope they make something of theirselves and release something. Finally Louis talls absolute rubbish same difference are a class act that should of won.

ps christmas song actually sent me to sleep!

    Comment by Damon — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 06:36

    Comment by Damon — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 06:55

  65. OK,

Rhydian has a very good voice, but he trained for 3 years and could not make it, the whole idea of the X-factor is to find new talent, not talent that could not cut it… He will get a record deal and make money so all you people out there can buy or download his album.

Same Difference, may god how bad, so bloody cheesy!!! Simon cowell knew how bad these two were! why did they continue to sing love songs to each other, they are brother and sister…

Leon, the guy is 18 and does have a good voice, if he is looked after he can improve so much, for me he is what the x-factor is about finding raw talent, unlike last years winner who had a record deal with another company.

Well done Leon and good luck!

    Comment by Mark — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 11:59

  66. A lot of unhappy Rhydian fans i see.
If the X-Factor was a simple singing contest then i think we are all in agreement that Rhydian would have easily walked away with the win, but the X-Factor is much more than just a singing contest, it’s designed to find a singer who will earn a recording contract and have a lot of *chart* success as Leona, Shane and one or two others have done. Whether we like it or not Leon (albeit after some vocal and dance training) is likely to have far greater success in the ‘pop industry’ than Rhydian, who lets face it with a ’semi-operatic’ voice is very limited as to the type of songs he can sing.
Rhydian will no doubt have a good career on the stage maybe in west-end shows, but a record selling chart topper he is not.
Same Difference (although as cheesy as you can get) would have, and still could, sell a lot of records and do very well.
We must remember, you do not have to be the actual winner of the X-Factor to become a successful recording artist, as has been proven many times already. If you have talent and the ‘likability factor’ then the public will still buy your records.
Just my humble opinion of course.

    Comment by Stu. — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 12:19

  67. I also tried to vote for Rhydian and couldn’t get through - but felt he was on a losing wicket by singing last and therefore Leon had already had a commercial break and Rhydians song for people to vote for him before Rhydian’s number was broadcasted. Not sure whether singing with established stars was a good idea either, as some are obviously more popular with the voters than others which could influence the vote and I also thought Rhydian was totally drowned out by the singing of Katherine Jenkins - who on earth was responsible for the balance?

Apart from that - I loved Kylies lace outfit.

    Comment by Susanna — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 13:34

  68. What a bunch of bad losers the Welsh are!!! Leon was by far the better performer on the night… And, after all who wants to listen to a jumped up ginger headed geek who should never have been on the x factor in the first place - opera goers, perhaps! If he is so good why wasn’t he given a contract when he finished his classical singing training? Get over you sore losers - go Leon. Scotland is so proud of you.

    Comment by fergie — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 16:08

  69. sure the x factor was fixed
e.g. leon appeared 2nd 3 times after same difference
and Rhydian was only 2nd to appear once so some rigging there

addition when the cover song was done again Leon went first and i timed it as watched it again on repeat and there was between 15 - 20mins before Rhydian was given the ‘winners’ song to sing itv and simon cowell you need to be ashamed esp with all the phone /itv rigging already
    shame on you
    Rhydian was the best

    Comment by lou kirby — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 16:15

  71. I think Same Difference and Rhydian gave awsome preformances, but leon (his name does not even deserve a capital letter!!) brought shame to x-factor. After the star Leona, this series sucked, why can’t people sing anymore!!!

    Comment by Divastar — Monday, 17 December, 2007 @ 18:04

  72. thought Rhydian was brill rang constantly to vote

    Bring back good old pop

    Comment by Matt — Wednesday, 19 December, 2007 @ 22:15

  75. Rhydian fans could have had another 2 hours 45 minutes to vote and they still would not have reached the Leon Jackson total votes!!!!The rest of the country are sick of hearing you moan about the result and this will reflect BADLY on any future Rhydian success. The final vote was not as close as you may think….far from it.

    Comment by David — Thursday, 20 December, 2007 @ 01:33

  76. I just cant believe what happened of the result…leon WON HOW?Rhydian,is the better and the best singer from start..oh please give rhydian,a contract to sing again..I diffenetly buy his album, and looking forward for his concert..I LOVE YOU RHYDIAN!
