After a closely fought contest with over one hundred and fifty thousand auditionees, X Factor 2007 came down to a sing-off between Scotsman Leon and Welshman Rhydian.
Both acts sang their version of the song to be released as the winner’s single “When you Believe”, which is to be released on Wednesday.
Ultimately there could only be one winner, and that winner was Leon!
Rhydian had been favourite to win the competition since Futureproof and Daniel, with Leon referred to as the ‘dark horse’ of the competition, but ultimately with the voting power of Scotland behind him it was former shop-assistant Leon who succeeded.
The battle is now on for Christmas number one - can Leon make it to the top spot in time?

What a fix! Simon Cowell already knew that Rhydian wouldn’t win with your comments after the last song. Leon can’t even sing. I’m absolutely gutted that he has won and will never be visiting Scotland again. Do they not understand that it is a talent competition? How does Leon have the x factor? What a setup! The judges were practically saying goodbye to Rhydian after his last song and he had the sad look on his face of someone who has lost a competition. He knew he had lost before the result came in and Sharon’s comment saying ‘he’s revolting’ discouraged people from voting. Also the last voting was unfair as Leon had more live coverage on air than Rhydian did. I hope others write and complain about this humiliating and embarrassing show, it should be banned.

I am soooooo angry…what the hell were people voting for Leon thinking….the wrong person won….Rhydian was incredible week after week….Leon was out of tune throughout most performances and had the charisma of a wet rag….what a waste of watching for the last 3 months…won’t be making the same mistake next year. Looking on the bright side, Rhyd can choose his own way now and won’t be attached to a show and management that clearly have absolutely no idea about true talent. I’m 10 years old and even i know that Rhydian should have won this competion. Leon all the way through has been inconsistent. His first songs in the final were sung uninspiringly and obviously he was struggling to sing the christmas number one. Either the UK is tone deaf or this is a fix as Rhydian should of won. Niki also should of been in the final this year.

Wrong winner! You’ve only got to look at the comments already posted to this blog to realise that. I did eventually get through to vote for Rhydian but it wasn’t easy. Do the judges or the program producers look at these comments, they should.

This was a rigged result. I have no problem with Leon or any other contestant winning on a fair basis, ie. the quality of their performance / personality / flair etc. But ITV used these young people tonight when they turned this final into a nationalistic battle between the Scots, the Welsh and the English.
It was a foregone conclusion that Leon would win, the English lack any national identity and nationalistic pride, after all what are we known for except awful food and football vandalism? The Scots and the Welsh on the other hand are fiercely nationalistic and this is evidenced by their strong desire to break away from the UK. The problem for Rhydian over Leon is that that there are far far less Welsh than there are Scots. And as for Same Difference they didn’t have a chance.
Shame on you ITN for your cynical spinning of this final.

What a fix, No one can phone in when they want to vote, the older ones will not phone in because of ITV’s reputation and no results are published for the public to look at, we have to rely on the ‘honesty of ITV’, and we know what that represents.

Dear Sirs,
I am writing for the first time in my life to express my outrage and utter cynicism at the alleged phone-in result of the X factor. Mr Simon Cowell was apparently possessed of remarkable prescience when he confused the eventual “winner” with the losing finalist and the thread continued through the various judges comments where approval of Rhydian was conspicuously absent despite an overwhelmingly superior performance.
I have no nationalistic axe to grind, being of English extraction, and can assure you that in future I will pay absolutely no attention to the supposed results of these contests which appear to me to be designed to extract the maximum PR value and income from a predetermined result.

I had my telephone on redial, but we just could not get through from Wales. All we kept getting was “Network busy, you have not been charged for this call” ITV need to get the telephone lines sorted.
I am disgusted, Rhydian was the most outstanding throughout the complete show.
Rhydian should release “Oh Holy Night” to compete for the top Christmas song, he would beat Leon, easily. I would buy his single, but would not even entertain Leon’s.

I have not watched the first two X factor but Rhydian was the sole reason for my following X factor after watching his performance in the second week (I missed the first one). Too many people take for granted Rhydian’s consistency and the hardwork behind the scene despite him being such a great talent. At first I was going to buy the X-factor winner’s single but now I only want to buy Ryhdian’s CD. I am sure it is coming soon.

In my opinion Rhydian was the better performer-Leon has a good voice but he needs time to get to great.Voting for the wrong person could end up hurting the very person you favour.I was disappointed

Rhydian is the better singer and best overall performer. I would think that anyone in the music business who desires quality and excellence will sign him up. Winning the X factor, apart from the year Leona won, has never meant the best won anyway so I hope that Rhydian is not put off by being runner-up. In some ways it is a relief as he may end up with a better recording deal and career (Steve whathisname anyone?) and be allowed to keep more of his heart (although Leona’s record is technically excellent some of the emotional qualities of her voice have been lost in the production.
Although I think Leon has potential, he still has a long way to go and his vocals are variable in quality (he’s got “it” but needs work). Rhydian comes through every time and this is what one expects of a great, international standard performer. I will wait to see both their careers progress but I imagine Rhydian will last longer.

What utter rubbish! I dont usually watch the X-Factor and this has confirmed why. How can Leon, with his at best mediocre voice and bland personality win over someone who actually has a clear talent. What a joke!
Looks like all you need to win the X-Factor is the ability to burst into tears and looked terrified all the time.

I am still shaking my head in disbelief. Rhydian was the only one who did not come along with some sob story to catch votes, he played the game graciously every week and can truly sing. Leon, with his doe eyes and tears just doesn’t cut the mustard vocally in the same way that Rhydian can…what a let down. It’s no wonder he can’t believe he won, I can’t either.
Sorry Rhydian ..I really thought you would win…But hey, I think your future is bright whatever.

i like Leon but lets be honest he messed up a lot earlier on and although at times he is good Rhidian did not let us down once. I was looking forward to getting Rhidians xmas no 1 and his album but now I shall have to watch e bay for his performances. on cd. Leon should not of won. Rhydian is by far the better singer. I think there should be a re vote as many phone lines were down this evening. Then the real winner will be discovered. Rhydian is a star..

Office of Fair Trading should look into whether or not there has been phone rigging on X Factor. People couldn’t get through to vote for Rhydian who obviously had the talent. The only lines available were for the also rans. Total fix.

What a load of RUBBISH!! Leon should not of even got passed the first show let alone WIN it!! Rhydian is by far the better singer and perfomer, Leon on the other hand struggled to keep a note in tune…PATHETIC!! I thought X Factor was crap this year compared to what it used to be like and tonight has just proved that it has got even worse. Well i will not be watching next year if this year is anything to go by!! I mean seriously how on earth can you even put Leon in the same catergory as Rhydian?? It is and outrage!! Rhydian you are a star and by far the winner, we all know you will go alot further than the rubbish that won tonight. Interesting to read comments about the not being able to get through. It took me three goes to eventually get through to Rhydian’s line as well! (I did vote more than once in the end but the lines were busy each time). It certainly does need looking into by ITV if there was a problem with the phonelines although I think in some ways Rhydian, by not getting this contract, will do better anyway.

What a disgrace. A complete fix. leon cannot sing and had a sob story every week. After his last song they showed him crying in the audition as a sympathy vote.
There was 10 minutes after his song for people to vote, but only 3 minutes for Rhydian. All the judges for some reason wanted Leon to win, thats why Simon made a comment about it being the last time we hear Rhydian sing. Rhydian sang the new single far better and he has been so consistent.If Simon admitted that Rhydian was by far the best contestant, why did he then say there was nothing between them. He said at the start there was going to be a shock … he had it planned before anybody sang. He tried to use the English Nationalism to get Same Difference through but that didnt work.
Tried to vote for Rhydian for 1 hour as did my friend and neither could get through. Leon will go the same way as that other Scottish superstar winner, Michelle McManus !

Im English and proud of it, love the Scots and Welsh but come on people, Rhydian has been in a differnt league throughout this so called competition! I had no problem at all voting this evening…Wait and see if Leaon has an album out in the next 6 months it’ll be the same as saying ‘make the most of it while it lasts’ I cat see SImon keeping him under wraps for 12 months to perfect the brand as he did with Leona!

I find it funny that everyone is bad-mouthing Leon, showing total bias. Haven’t any of you noticed by now that Rhydian only has one vocal style, whereas Leon has a larger vocal range and range of styles he’s willing to go with, and do well. If you say Rhydian performed the winners song better than Leon, then you need your head examined. Well done Leon!

People-
Imagine you were the producers of the show or the potential manager’s of the finalists.
If Rhydian wins you have a natural million dollar ticket - Leon, in my mind, nothing special, would fade into the background making you no money.
If, however, you somehow manage to get Leon to win you also have the natural million dollar ticket as the winner of the x factor but you also have a guaranteed second million dollar ticket with the immensely talented runner up, who, in my mind, won’t fade away but will be around for many years to come.
With this result you, as the producer, have just doubled your takings!
It did seem to me that all the judges were aware of the result before it was announced which calls into question the whole system.
But don’t worry Rhydian will be back, and, simon - next time you need to be a bit more careful who your addressing on stage!

Come on guys,
A classical/opera/show singer is never going to win on X factor above a popular artist.
Truth is, both are winners and lets take our hats off to them. They are both great vocalists and deserve winning in their own way. Leon will hit the charts and popular cd’s, whilst Ryhdian will make the stage etc.
Good luck to them both. But…..I do believe Leon Needed to win, not just wanted to. Don’t deprive him of that coz he sang very well tonight.

Whoever thinks that Leon will knock Leona off the No 1 spot must be living in La La land. Rhydian is fantastic can SING, has personality (unlike cry baby Leon). Leon (I am sorry to say) is average to say the least. He will be yesterday’s news very soon after tonight.

Absolute travesty that Rhydian didn’t win. It must have been a fix - especially after the judges comments on Rhydian’s performance of the final song. Rhydian was totally brilliant throughout and Leon will just be a one (hit?) wonder. I agree that Rhydian should release Holy Night and beat Leon to a Christmas No 1.

For all those of you out there saying Leon can’t sing….consider his age and compare his talents to those of any 18 year olds you know. Not a single person i know his age can sing that well. He has incredible power for both his age and size! He simply lacked the experience and confidence of Rhydian, which will come in time. His voice, in my opinion has a gorgeous tone however, I am of course aware that this is a matter of opinion. I would also like to say to all those saying that the phone lines were rigged in Leon’s favour, I tried many times to vote for Leon but was unable to.
And, despite obviously being chosen for Rhydian, Leon did sing the final song better than Rhydian in my opinion. You can disagree with me on it being chosen for Rhydian, but sadly I watch far too many of these programs and the final song is always chosen for the contestant most likely to sell the most records.
In my opinion, Leon was the underdog and equally as talented as Rhydian, and everyone likes to see the underdog win sometimes.

We are so disappointed.We phoned for Rhydian at least 50 times but could not get through once.The show was obviously fixed.We hope Rhydian does have a phone call from Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and has a fantastic West End career , where people can appreciate his talent.

Come on guys… you should have known this was a fix all the time. Beverley had a wonderful voice and should have made the final. Same Difference could not sing. I always found Leon’s performances embarrassing to watch, very awkward on stage. Rhydian has one of the best voices I have ever heard. The really sad thing is how they almost made Rhydian believe he had won it in previous rounds. I think you need to consider who these judges are and what their prime purpose for this show is. If there is any justice in this world Rhydian will be offered a recording contract, only wish I had a couple of million spare to do 2 fingers to that shameful lot on the X factor!

Leon deserved to win, because of his background, because he has a great voice, but mainly because yes, Rhydians voice is amazing, but he could go soo much further in Theater or Opera, Lyon should be given the chance to go forward in English pop. But i must say, in my opinion the song suited Leons voice much better. Anyway, its all for old Simon to make some money, and either way he does…So who really cares!

Travesty. Of course Rhydian should have won. He has a wonderful talent which will be snapped up by the right people. Interestingly, when I googled X-factor there was an article in the Telegraph which says that Shane MacGowan’s Fairytale of New York may well take the No 1 Christmas spot, as there has been a surge in sales. So come on, let’s boycott Leon’s X-factor single and buy this one - a classic Christmas song anyway.

What a farce- never again will I watch the X Factor and waste time. Rhydian was the only real talent of that show and hearing him sing was a joy and the single reason for viewing. Why was the nationality factor brought in by ITV. It is cheap and totally misplaced in a talent competition- if that was the aim? Hopefully, Rhydian will be sponsered by people who will invest in his wonderful voice. It would be such a shame if it is lost to the public at large.- Good luck to Leon but I am afraid it won´t last long as there are so many “bigger fish” around.

I always believed it to be fixed (without saying it actually is, though), and although Leon is a good person, I’m glad that the majority of people share the same beliefs as me - that the show is fixed and that Rhydian was the best.
I will be buying Rhydian’s music, and I hope that whoever prevented Rhydian winning will get whatever they deserve.
I won’t say anything bad about Leon, because he himself doesn’t deserve it, but I am gutted that Rhydian didn’t win.

A betting scam I reckon. I’ve been monitoring the odds for weeks and Rhyd has been odds on for at least a month. Tonight he gradually shortened from 1/3 to 1/5 (after Same Difference went out), while Leon went out to 3/1. An underground organisation threatened to do this with Big Brother this year and failed. I think this time they succeeded. Let’s face it, bookies are never THAT wide of the mark. On EVERY show so far they’ve been just about spot on. IT STINKS BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!

Rhydian has been the star performance over all past X factor winners since the start of the show, never mind this series. For Leon to win, who should have not even got past the first 2 weeks is absurd. i wont be watching next year.
You only have to read all the negative posts on this blog, and other blogs to see who the winner should have been - Rhydian, and im sure when he is ‘allowed’ to release a record it will reach number one and he will be a great sucess, unlike Leon, who cannot reach a high note if he tried, looks stiff on stage with freight and shouldnt have been anywhere near the final. Both were excellent however i believe the best man won but i am DISGUSTED at the scale of ignorance some people are showing with there comments - if the Scotland vote and only the Scotland vote could make a contestant win a show of this magnitude then the McDonald bros for example and all other Scotland contestants would always win - stop the sticks and stones and give your best wishes to who seems to be a lovely young man and a terrific singer with a great future ahead of him!! once again congratulations Leon and i’m sure Rhydian will have his opportunity to light up broadway x

I do agree that Leon improved over the last few weeks, but there was only person in the race with the X factor from the start and that was Rhydian. I am so glad Leon won, his version of the christmas song was miles ahead of rydian’s.
He comes across as a very caring young man unlike rydian who seems to be arrogant and made of steel. I am sure Leon will make it to No 1 for Christmas and want to wish him all the luck in the world x

I’m old enough to be both their mums. Only one act sings in tune. I watch the show but do not usually vote. Decided tonight to try - but could not get through to “Rhydian”. If this is the way we decide the best singers then this is the finish of this show.

I have not voted on X factor before, but Rhydian has such an amazing voice I felt moved to do so this year (I could get through, but I live in England!).
NEVER AGAIN WILL I PUT MONEY IN SIMON COWELL’S POCKET. I agree with the above comments - A TRAVESTY.
PLEASE do us a CD, Rhyd! (Personally, I’d love to hear you do some Queen stuff- I think your voice would be perfect, you have the power and range for Freddie’s songs!)

Another thought - the phone companies have stats on everything- if lines were engaged and the result was fixed then ITV should be in big big trouble.
Simon Cowell is tonight LOSER. Every dog has his day and you’ve had yours mate.
This show tonight was so obviously out of sinc even Dermot O’leary’s body language from the start said something was wrong.
For the sake of such shows in the future ITV must agree to a full investigation of its practices. Something was not right tonight and we need to know what or else ITV’s credibility is blown out the water.

I am in disbelief. Leon I am afraid is not very good. The British general public are once again proven to be ignorant when it comes to any sort of culture. He has a voice that is very average, he is ugly and unmarketable apart from providing a pathetic sob story. He is an embarrassment, especially for Scotland - a dancing gnome who cries every 5 minutes. He will need a £100million to sell records. This is the first and last time we watch the x factor. We have watched it this year because of the sheer brilliance of Rhydian. Can NOT believe that someone who can’t even sing in tune and has little personality has won! If this is the quality of Simon Cowell’s judgement then we are genuinely very surprised.
Must admit, we always thought that Simon was spot on re comments, but he really gave the game away tonight when he got Rhydian’s name wrong (and if you saw Rhydian’s face you could see that he was taken back as well)
Next year we will be watching the dancing instead or going to see Rhydian or buying his CD.

Eh? What happenned? Leon isnt in the same league as Rhydian, not by a long way. I reckon that because the little girlies will like him, he was perceived as the most viable buisness proposition and that the votes were rigged.
If they were not rigged then Leon should know that he didnt win on the basis of talent but because he was Scottish.
Rigged, fixed and completely off my tv watch list from now on. That for sure.
If Rhydian releases an Album I will be straight to the shops to buy it BECAUSE he is brilliant. As for Leon, who really wants to buy an album from a strutting chicken who was up to his knees in two inches of dry ice, talentless and has a hollow victory based on his nationality rather than his ‘ability’.

Well, after having been too enraged to do anything worthwhile for the past hour, I’ve finally logged on here - and THANK GOD - from the majority of the comments here, I see the British public do have taste after all. Luckily I managed to get through to vote for Rhydian, but I’m shocked how many people were unsuccessful. I have loved the X Factor ever since it was first on, but it was unbelievably manipulated tonight, I’m disgusted. Why oh why show the old video clips of Sharon saying she thought Rhydian was disgusting, and Danii sticking out her tongue in disgust…..And as for Simon Cowell’s faux pas - something tells me he knew the winner in advance and was just feeling guilty that the wrong guy had won. However, I believe justice will out - for goodness sake, someone, sign Rhydian up to a major record deal and bring the alternative Christmas single out - it will knock Leon well and truly into touch!

Well.. I’m gobsmacked, Leon sings consistantly out of tune, bad notes and is not very nice to listen to generally, especially when put along side Rydian.
Like many I tried to vote but couldnt get through, I wonder if those votes from people like me were counted (and from what I’ve read there is a lot of us) then we would have the true winner.
I won’t be buying the CD, but I would have done if it was Rhydian’s version.

Okay, be happy for Leon.
He won. Face the fact.
Yes, Rhydian was a good singer and I agree that he should of won but it is over with now.
If you wanted him to win so much then phone in. It was not a fix so don’t mix it all up and make stupid excuses.
And if you keep going on about how he can’t sing, then why is he in the final?
Obviously people believe he can sing and wouldn’t have voted for him and would be out of the competition a long time ago.
The judges probably have a lot more experience on this than you do so they know what they are talking about.
Leon is still a good singer and has only been doing it for less than a year and to get that far on a competition is pretty damn good so quit complaining.
Also, don’t blame a thing on Scotland.
It is not like Leon is representing what Scotland think. There are people who don’t like him y’know.
Finally, just because he cried does not make a difference.
He was happy that he got this far and for his Mum.
It did not give him any sympathy votes and if you still believe so then think about Same Difference in the Semi-final when Sarah cried at the end. They should have left that week instead of Nikki but stayed in because she was emotional after her performance .
So, be happy for Leon.
What is done, is done and nothing can be changed about it.

I am thinking about this and feel really that Rhydian was cheated because of the lines being open for Leon longer following final song.
It is also worrying reading about all of Rhyd’s voters who could not get through on the phone. I think there should be a re-count

It wasn’t only the Welsh that couldn’t get through to vote for Rhydian. I’m English and live in Yorkshire and I couldn’t get through either. You might as well save your money if there’s a Scot involved. Is it fiddled? cos there are more English and Welsh in Britain, than Scots- but then, they own and now control everything-don’t they!
Rhydian was the better singer, by far. Won’t bother watching again.

Rhydian was competing in a jealous environment where medocricy is encouraged. Perfection is discouraged. Rhydian is superb. Unique, wonderful singing voice, professional performing skills, good personality, confident. He lost to a little boy who cannot sing. This says everything about how Britain is today. Pathetic! Rhydian - release your CD - we will buy it.

Absolutely gutted for Rhydian, thought this was a talent contest!!!
Also had difficulty getting through but eventually did get a vote in.
Rhydian will win in the end, many who have come second went on to do very well i.e. G4.
Stick with it Rhydian you have loyal fans who can’t wait to buy a record of yours. I think you have the ability to have a lasting career, and will not be a one hit wonder. Guess which record I won’t be buying.
As for “Same Difference” - they remind me of Donny and Marie Osmond, hope someone out there will give them a chance to have a fun show of their own, they cheered us up immensly. I had them down to come second to Rhydian based on the sheer fun factor which we are in short supply of.

We tried to vote after they announced only 1% between Leon & Rydian. Tried to vote constantly and just got engaged signal.

I think its really come to a sad state when talent contests are won by the person who has the best sob story rather than the best voice. Nothing against Leon, but Rhydian was by far the better singer and deserved the title. Everybody on the show this year has had a sob story, crying nearly every week whereas Rhydian had no sob story, no sympathy, no tears, just came out week after week and performed fantastically!
I also feel very disappointed at the way in which the judges were clearly bias and aware of who the winner would be by the way in which they addressed rhydian after his last song. It was also disgusting how Leons best bits showed him crying and his story whereas Rhydians showed him in a bad light and with both danni and sharon implying they hated him which I felt was both inappropriate for a contestant in the final and very unkind to put rhydian in that position. Also when Simon called rhydian leon…that speaks for itself!! I also thought Danni showed clear bias towards leon by the way in which when he was announced winner she didnt even console rhydian she was ecstatic and all over leon.
I would also like to know if anyone else noticed that when all the contestants came out at the end, rhydian was pushed to the back when he was the runner up ?!!
I feel genuinely gutted for rhydian and really hope he has a hugely successful future ahead of him. Also I hope x factor single doesnt make xmas number one!! Come on Leona, hold onto that number one spot!!

The show was obviously fixed. Even the scots have better taste than to vote for Leon. There was only one winner, Rhydian without a doubt. I have voted the last time ever for such shows as the x factor. I only hope that I will be able to see and hear such talent as Rhydian again. It would be a sad day for us all if we could not. The X Factor show have given us a glimpse of such talent. please dont take it away.

I live in the East of England and I did not manage to get through to vote for Rhydian. My partner was able to vote for Leon without any trouble.
If Leon won the X Factor because of the Scottish factor it brings the whole competition into disrepute.
The Eurovision Song Contest has lost any credibility it ever had because of biased voting the X Factor appears to be going the same way.
Anyone who has any idea about singing knows that Rhydian has an amazing voice. All four judges said that Rhydian deserved to win because he had the best voice.
Leon consistently sang out of tune. The producers in the recording studios are going to have their work cut out turning out cds in which Leon remains in tune.
I suggest that Simon Cowell ensures that both Leon and Rhydian’s version of Mariahs Carey’s song are released at the same time so we can see who sells the most. I feel very confident that Rhydian would win easily.
I would like Simon Cowell’s explanation regarding his comments about Rhydian’s final song. I knew then that Leon was going to win and I think Rhydian did as well judging by his reactions.
Despite feeling very upset for Rhydian that he did not win the X Factor I am positive that he has an extremely successful career ahead of him as an international singing star.
I thought that G4 were robbed when they came second in X Factor 1 for Leon to win X Factor 4 is a travesty of the highest order. He is only 18, how on earth is he going to cope if as is highly probable he fades quickly from the limelight with a failed music career like Nikki.
Rhydian you are a winner to many of us as the comments on this blog show.

Its true. To crown a cry baby who cant hit any note in any meaningful way is a travesty. Also, the editing was tilted by showing some kid who cries like a baby, but had to show time and again, Sharon’s stupid comments about Rhydian being arrogant. He’s not, and at least he can sing. I had no clue what Leon was signing about. His diction is awful, is key is off, and he cant sign full stop. Which reminds me, L Walsh is also tone deaf if he thinks Leon can sing.

Ive had enough of this.
Leon won, deal with it. Opera is NOT something that everyone will listen to and lets face it, the xfactor is a show for young people. Why do you think they made the age to enter 14?? Think about it people! Both guys have great voices.
Im sure Rhydian will get a contract but he really didnt help himself. He was cocky from day one and his singing sometimes came across as fake. He didnt put his heart into some of the songs.
As for people not being able to get through. Didnt “Network busy, you have not been charged for this call” tell you anything? Leon had the SAME thing for his lines!! I tried for a bloody hour and never got through.
Another thing, it wasnt about the scots and the welsh, it was about who people thought would be better. Who people connected with more and who people picked up the phone and bloody voted for.
Leon has the x factor. He has everything for main stream songs. Rhydian is a specialist singer.
For all those people that say bad things about leon, remember hes only young and has had way less training than some of the other people that have been on the show. I just hope he gets the same chances as leona has got.

Someone needs to make sure Rhydian releases “Somewhere” as a record, he performs it beautifully. Im a fan of both finalists and honestly couldnt choose as I love both types of music. I think Katherine Jenkins was Rhyds downfall, she sang too loudly and made him seem like a backing singer, this is the first time that the power of his voice hasnt been overwhelming.He has a fantastic career ahead of him and I for one will be queueing to buy his first album. I haven’t been able to watch many shows in this series, but watched the entire final, cringeing at Leon’s complete inability to hold a note, let alone a tune, and wondering how bad the other contestants must have been for Leon to get this far!
Rhydian seems to have the talent to get somewhere, though he’s a long way from the finished article, but it will take every trick in the sound engineer’s book to get a passable album out of Leon.

Someone said ‘ stupid scotland’ was the reason Leon won - a whole nation has been rubbished.
I think that is why Scotland want independence but we have always had an affinity with the welsh but the English have always been our enemies - nothing changes.
Well done Leon - Rhydian will get on without X Factor so no worries there. Ryhdian you are a very talented guy and I can listen to you forever but I also like listening to the different styles of Leon and will certainly buy music from both of you but as a Scot i proud that an 18 year old from any nation can get up the courage to enter the x factor and take on the big boys and win through - I could not do it.
Leon deserves a chance and Rhydian will record many songs and will be appearing everywhere as will Leon.
Leon had 11m people turn out to see him at livingston and if I had known he was going to be there I would have driven to see him too.
Dont know about the problem with the phone lines in Wales but we did not always have clear lines for Leon either - it took my daughter of 14 ages to get through to vote for Leon but she persevered and eventually managed to record her vote.
Go for it Leon and prove them all wrong!

Never before have I ever written a comment to a website. This is my 2nd - I have just posted one on the BBC as well. I, like many others here know what a good voice and talent is - and it is certainly not Leon. I would not normally watch pregrammes like the X-factor, but actually heard Rhydian, for the first time about 5 weeks ago; he made me put down the paper and listen. When Leon sang on that programme I thought he was hopelessly out of tune. Tonight Leon perfomed well - but I am sorry, for a talent show looking for the best singer the result was a disgrace. The judges all along were calling Ryhdian the best/world class/international quality etc - something smells. Good luck to Leon, he is young and deserves a break - and needed to win, but I think there will be a huge backlash from this total travesty.

I liked Leon and Rhydian. Pleased for Leon that he won. Rhydian was more consistant every week and his voice is better. However, as someone else put, Leon is only 18 and is new to singing. Leon will grow as a performer. I truely hope that Rhydian does well out of the X-Factor.

I couldnt agree more with most of these comments, Rhydian’s singing sent shivers up my spine it was fantastic. Leon was out of tune, and I couldnt understand the comments from the judges about his singing of the final song,it was embarrasing. I do not normally buy records but I would have bought Rhydians version of that song, but not Leon’s. I am English and no axe to grind,and I think it was a great mistake making it a welsh v scottish thing, as I thought it was all about who was the best singer, not about what nationality they were. If people in Wales did have trouble getting through to vote, then that really isnt on, and there should be a re-vote. That should be investigated straight away. Leon will be a small time singer,nothing above average, whereas Rhydian would have been an international star. Maybe he still will be, I hope so. He is amazing.

Is anyone else really uncomfortable with the way this show became about voting for your ‘country’ not a singer. The show played up the anti ‘Britishness’ in Scotland meaning Leon had a huge advantage. I’m not saying the lad doesn’t have talent but really there was no comparison to Rhid and Same Difference had far more entertainment value. This was all started by Louis saying acts were good because they were Irish! Can you imagine if we were told to vote for an act because they were black or white- no of course not- but its the same thing. I won’t be watching again.

Ridiculous! Rhydian is head and shoulders better than anyone in the competition - he can perform, he is a stylish, handsome and graceful man, and he most certainly can sing. Leon should have been out in the first round, he can barely hold a tune together. How on earth he won ahead of Rhydian I cannot fathom. Presumably the Scots voted for him because he is ‘wee’ - wee boy, wee talent. Rhydian won hands down for everyone in our family - we will be buying his albums and watching his shows. Look at all the comments left here - we’re not the only ones who think it is a travesty that Leon won the X Factor. Come on Simon, sign up Rhydian and bring out his amazing first album!

I would like to change the name of X Factor to FIX Factor.
I think the people who run programme knew who the winner would be a while before the end. It’s obivous Leon and his image is commercial and can be sold for young girls who know nothing about music.
It’s a pity that real talent which is so rare to find, such as Rhydian, did not in the end get the full support which would have furthered his career. Leon unfortunately does not have an ounze of talent, has an avarage voice and no charisma.
MUSIC IS AN ART and unfortunately music is now nothing but big business which has created many leons and leonas who are just packaged for the consumer market, but who sadly lack REAL talent.

We continually tried to vote for Rhydian but our land line telephone company said that they couldn’t deal with the calls that we were trying to make. My daughter eventually got through using her mobile phone. I find it unfortunate that so many from Wales were in the same position. Was the vote for Rhydian so substantial that the lines couldn’t deal with the numbers calling or are more sinister issues afoot?
Very sad that Rhydian did not receive the accolade he deserved. It is this sort of result that creates a loss of faith which will eventually lead to the demise of the show.

Rhydian is, and always will be a “Superstar” his voice range is fantastic. Leon is just “ordinary” and does not have anything over and above the man on the street, I am sure he is a fine guy, and can sing a few songs, but Rhydian is a true professional and he will be HUGE in the future, he should count himself “lucky” that he didn’t get crowned winner of this Complete Sham of a Show. He does not need the X Factor or any other Factor to get out there and entertain the world… He should just go and do it!!

Thought tonights X factor was very entertaining. Clearly the show has reached the point where people are suspicious of the format and especially the voting in the final (because the result never seems to adhere to what is often obvious in terms of who should win). Have read many of the comments about this with interest. I am not in anyway involved with the music industry, and don’t profess to be an expert, but I would say that Rhydian was by far the most consistent and outstanding performer. The result therefore doesn’t fit at all with what I and millions of other witnessed over the past few months. I guess that it is kind of irrelevant really. In this day and age selling singles and making number one is not very difficult in terms of volumes of sales. Selling albums, pulling in punters to your performances, and sustaining this over time is a better measure of talent (Led Zeppelin never even released a single - need I say more). I suspect Leon, or whatever his name is, will be as succesful as his prececessors, whoever they are/were. As for Rhydian, I suspect he will have a long and succesful career the likes of which Leon can only but imagine. As for X factor. Shambles, isn’t it?

If I worked for BT I would have blocked Rhydians line aswell, what age are you people that like him…do you wear cardigans and sit in your seat smelling of pee petting your cat all day which sits on your tartan rug to keep your kness warm.
