Watch Niki’s Semi-Final Performance

Last night’s X Factor was the end of the road for mother of two Niki Evans. The Brummie, who had previously been working as a school dinner lady, polled the lowest number of the public vote, leaving her out of the final next week.

Niki faced some controversy at the start of her X Factor journey after it was revealed that she had been signed to Stock, Aitken and Waterman during the mid 1980s, sharing a studio with Kylie. Her records failed to sell however, and she was dropped after just one year. X Factor producers denied there was anything wrong with this, commenting that the X Factor existed partly to give people like Niki another chance.

Watch Niki’s performance last night below and tell us what you think!

  1. why did Niki go out. She was the best singer by far. apart from rydian but this competition is looking for pop singers and there is no place for an opera singer. Come on leon!

    Comment by rachel — Sunday, 9 December, 2007 @ 09:50

  2. Leon should have gone out, not Niki.

    Comment by Joan — Sunday, 9 December, 2007 @ 10:49

  3. Niki should not have gone out, it should have been Leon - but ofcourse the whole of Scotland is voting for him !

    Comment by Joan — Sunday, 9 December, 2007 @ 10:50

  4. I’d like to see Rhydian sing more engaging songs such as Freddie Mercury’s ‘Don’t stop me now’and something that makes listeners want to tap their feet to.

    Comment by Daffnee — Sunday, 9 December, 2007 @ 12:26

  5. i voted for Niki and Rhydian! can’t believe she didn’t make it to top 3. to Rhydian, Goodluck!

    Comment by GLOCEL — Sunday, 9 December, 2007 @ 12:38

  6. Glad Niki’s out, she ruined both her songs last night, she just isn’t consistent with the high notes, and she thinks that she’s better than she is. Leon should have gone out weeks ago, I thought his first song was terrible, he was so out of tune, only Simon seemed to hear that too, the other judges keep saying he’s the dark horse, more like the donkey and lets face it, he’s only still in cos he’s got the whole of scotland backing him, mcdonald brothers deja-vu if you ask me!I hope that Same Difference win (sure they won’t)I’d be happy buying their album and Rhydians. We’ll see.

  7. nikki should have stayed in, same difference should have gone, nikki has been fantastic every performance, iwill never vote again as ithink it is all planned, ridian has had an advantage all the way he has a great voice but no personalty or emotions.

    Comment by wendy morris — Sunday, 9 December, 2007 @ 13:21

  8. It should have been Leon out last night. His performance was about as interesting as a trip to the dentist. Niki you were robbed. Rhydian you have always been the best and really have no competition left in the show. You have the XFACTOR…Go rhyd Go….

  9. what a shambles, voting off possibly the best singer ive heard in years niki was faultless,i sometimes wonder if it aint rigged.
leon looks like a scared rabbit sounds worse and should have gone weeks ago he has got about as much charisma as a box of dry kippers

  10. Leon has a nice face, but that’s about it. He seems lifeless, and he lacks musicality, which Niki has in abundance. A Niki-Rhydian-Same Difference line-up would have made for a much better show next week. I hope Niki gets a contract or we hear from her again, because she moved me every time she sang.

    Comment by Martin Cassini — Sunday, 9 December, 2007 @ 15:59

  11. I love watching the X-factor every time it’s on. I’m gutted Niki left last night as her performances were both talented and amazing to even watch! Personally if it had been up to me Leon would of gone simply because I’ve not really taken to him as I have with the other contestants.

However…I do wish that Simon & Louis would stop scoring points at eachother by refusing to give eachother’s contestants positive comments. It’s making X-factor really really boring & Dannii & Sharon have been fantastic thoughout the show so the boys need to take a leaf from their books.

    P.S…Dermot O’Leary is wicked!

    Comment by Nicole — Sunday, 9 December, 2007 @ 16:04

  12. Niki should not have gone, I agree Leon should have, but I hope Rydian wins

    Comment by Mary — Sunday, 9 December, 2007 @ 17:15

  13. As soon as Sharon uttered those words I knew Niki was not going to stay

“I really do hope you will stay in..”

the kiss of death….spoken quite a few times I have noticed and they always come true…hmmm

Leon unfortunately has no personality whatsoever so will never make it in the world of showbiz and sings far too many flat notes…

If he wins it will have all been a complete waste of time for everyone that made the effort on the show……

    Comment by Rosie — Sunday, 9 December, 2007 @ 17:17

  14. What an absolute sham this show is…….. niki by far outsung same difference (only apt for singing in musicals),and leon, (only apt for crooning) I for one will not be watching another episode of this farce.

    Comment by den — Sunday, 9 December, 2007 @ 21:22

  15. i think the show is fixed theres no way nikki should have went home she is the best singer by far so next year i will not be watching the show cause its crap now

    Comment by rosie — Sunday, 9 December, 2007 @ 21:24

  16. i missed tha results show but i was convinced niki wud stay in. she gave me goose pimples evrytime she sang, rite from day one. i mean how many people can pull off celine dion songs?! desperatly hope she gets a contract coz i know for a fact al go out n buy it an so wil frends of mine! niki was th best contestant this year (an i think shes way beter than leona, wots with tha new song of hers bein played evrywer evryday anyway!?) i hope people r ashamed of note votin for niki!!!! she kikd ass!! x x x

    Comment by Christine — Sunday, 9 December, 2007 @ 22:32

  17. I was totally gobsmacked the Same Difference got through to the final. This pair are so annoying and cheesy it would make you sick. It is right enough what Louis Walsh say’s about them, they are only fit for a Butlin’s Holiday Camp. All the tears was basically just to egt a sympathy vote in my opinion. Nikki should have got through, as she was the best singer by far. Would like to see wee Leon winning, as he deserves it, and he is Scottish just like me. If Same Difference win, well I personally think that this would be an insult to the other contestants and the music industry!!!!

    Comment by Lynne Davis — Monday, 10 December, 2007 @ 11:12

  18. same difference should have gone not nikki. the girl in same difference looks really strange putting on sympathy vote, hope they r out first saturday. get rid,,,,

    Comment by nat — Monday, 10 December, 2007 @ 11:50

  19. Niki always had a bad attitude to criticism especially from Simon. She was a good singer..that’s all..no X factor..her defensiveness was a turn-off for me.

    Comment by kathy — Monday, 10 December, 2007 @ 14:21

  20. If the Scots put Leon in the final then they must be a country of tone deaf people. Leon sang more flat notes than any other contestant and is a boring person. If he wins hopefully he will be another Steve Brookstein. Has Wogan asked Same Difference to be representing UK in Eurovision Song Contest - they will be ideal (or was he joking on Radio 2 today)X Factor has lost another viewer as Niki was far better and was voted off. How do we know the voting isn’t rigged

    Comment by Linda Dale — Monday, 10 December, 2007 @ 16:38

  21. Niki was an over rated singer. She thought she was better than she was. The way she spoke back to the judges annoyed Me. Like when she challegend Simon by saying, “I’d like to see you get up here.”

Yeah. Like He needs to. Get over yourself old woman. Another thing that annoyed Me was the sob story. Yeah, you know, her Dad died. But come on, people’s Dad’s die all the time. Yes its a shame but do I want to hear about it week in and week out? No. Sob Stories are the death of shows like these.

Niki, Get back to serving dinners to ungrateful children.

    Comment by Arran — Monday, 10 December, 2007 @ 18:08

  22. Is it just me or is everyone missing the fact that niki missed a high note in her performance of ‘one moment in time’? “I will…(cough) I will be free…” I love Niki cuz she’s a great singer but she didn’t nail her last performance which is probably why she was voted out of the competition. But fairplay to her, she still managed to pick herself up after the end of the performance cuz when her voice gave up on that single note she still managed to sing the last part in tune.. “I will be free…” and she got a standing ovation from louis and sharon! :0

    Comment by harry — Monday, 10 December, 2007 @ 19:23

  23. …the whole point of the x factor being a talent competition seems to have been lost.. it’s become the battle of the judges, and whose act wins! thats how come some really good singers left the show. Looking at the line up for the final, I most definitely wil not waste my time watching it. there wil never be another winner as good as leona at this rate…

    Comment by Kay — Monday, 10 December, 2007 @ 20:01

  24. I don’t think that the voting on Saturday night was a fix, it was the UK people who voted. Lets be honest here the X Factor is no longer a singing competition, it does not matter if you have a good voice people vote on either appearance or they are patriotic. Although I think that Leon has a voice, its very raw and needs further development on how to project his voice and hold high notes. His supporters are the young girls and the people of Scotland. Personally, I feel that he is far too young and innocent to be there at times he looks uncomfortable. Give him a few years to develop and I am sure he will make it. Same Difference appeals to the youth and lets be honest here they would be good as children show presenters. Rhydian appeals to the mothers and older generation and Wales, he has the voice and I can see him working in the West End or Broadway.

It’s a great shame that acts are not voted on their merit, its goes to prove that the voters feel that being young and cute is far more important than talent.

I feel that the X Factor cannot survive another year on the way its being run at the moment. The constant bickering of the judges does more harm than good to their acts. Next year its needs a revamp new judges, people who work together to bring out the best in people and not there for their own personal gain. I would like the acts go to the public vote from week one, no judges having the right to send a person home and announce the number of votes let the public see the response. Finally, and most important that we judge the acts on their talent, and not on their looks their age or where they live.

Next year let it be fair-minded, give all the acts a chance, bring back the credibility factor.

    Comment by Dave — Tuesday, 11 December, 2007 @ 06:15

  25. Niki was undoubtedly one of the strongest contestants left in the competition. On the night, as throughout the series, Leon was the weakest of the four remaining acts. Whoever made the comment about the MacDonald Brothers was right - without Scotland backing him he wouldn’t still be there. I think Rhydian will win, but I’m backing Same Difference. People don’t seem to understand that cheesy happy pop sells in vast quantities. Biggest selling album in the world this year - High School Musical 2. Biggest two albums last year - High School Musical 1 and Hannah Montana. Just look at the success over the last decade or so of The Spice Girls, Steps, Girls Aloud et al. They may have more money for decent songs than Same Difference currently do, but that cheesy pop factor is still there and it’s hugely successful. Same Difference could sell out live arenas across the UK for years and years, as could Rhydian. Hopefully one of them will win and the Scots will get a slap for keeping a no-hoper in the competition at the expense of the more talented Niki.

    Comment by Simon — Tuesday, 11 December, 2007 @ 08:41

  26. Sorry to say this, but I think that it was Niki’s Brummie accent which was against her (and I am a Brummie myself) If she had spoken with a more Southern accent I am sure she would still be in the competition. She is a wonderful singer.

If Rhydian doesn’t win it now, there is no justice in the world.

Leon still looks like a frightened rabbit and I can’t believe how poorly he sings a lot of the time. How he can still be in the competition ahead of Niki and Beverley I shall never understand.

Same Difference are entertaining in an odd sort of way, but not in the same league as Rydian, Niki and Beverley. Sarah should surely have auditioned for Grease, as she would be the perfect Sandy. I didn’t like the way they played on the sympathy vote with their “sob story” and the tears at the end of the song.

    Comment by Wendy — Tuesday, 11 December, 2007 @ 08:53

  27. I think Niki’s biggest problem was the likability factor.
She did almost the opposite of Rydian. Niki started off being popular and likable, slowly over the weeks she grew more annoying..her sob stories, comments to the judges, especially Simon (after all she did choose to go on xfactor and supposedly is the singer, Simon is not)slowly changed people’s opinion.

As for the dinner lady bit they made such a big thing of, she has been a former back-up singer for Sonia and as seen above signed up with Stock, Aitken and Waterman. So it appears Niki’s was not the Cinderella story they would have us believe in the beginning. She has done the rounds.

I enjoyed a couple of her songs, at times her voice can be really lovely but for me she does not have the “xfactor”.

    Comment by ammie — Tuesday, 11 December, 2007 @ 11:48

  28. Nikki like Beverley was voted off because she had a good voice but no charisma and certainly does not have the X Factor. Throughout the contest Nikki had tuning problems and “Songbird” was out of tune for most of her performance. When she said that no one sings like her she was wrong. Leon does and like her he was out of tune on Saturday. The overall standard of the singing ability of this year’s contestants has been the lowest ever apart from Rhydian who would have probably won any of the three previous series. Same Difference are not great singers but they have real talent as all round entertainers and they have a very successful career in television ahead of them.

    Comment by Peter — Tuesday, 11 December, 2007 @ 15:30

  29. Sorry guys, but I honestly think it was the judges that cost Niki a final place. Especially Louis. I think the nail in the coffin was the way he sniped at Same Difference. Granted they are not the best singers, but there is no need to be so insulting to them. Especially when Sarah was crying onstage, and he still saw fit to rip into them. Criticise their performance, not how or who they are. I think that may have swayed the votes over to them out of sympathy for Same Difference, and out of spite for Louis Walsh. Shame it had to affect Niki though. A good singer, who did have a few duff notes, but not that many.

Best thing they can do for the next season if there is one is get rid of Louis. Shouldn’t have had him back in the first place.

    Comment by Rob — Wednesday, 12 December, 2007 @ 10:40

  30. I was so upset at Nikki going out, her performance was faultless. She remained professional to the end! Leon is a joke and should have gone along time ago, its about time people starting voting foir real talent and not baby faced looks!! asking for a sympathy vote!!. I really hope its not the last that will be seen of Nikki as it would be a shame and a waste. Good Luck Nikki.

    Comment by Wendy — Wednesday, 12 December, 2007 @ 12:16

  31. Niki’s peformance wasn’t faultless by any means, she didn’t get the high notes and it made uncomfortable viewing, I was watching and almost dreading the next high notes, will she won’t she pull it off kinda thing. Been disappointed with this years x factor, haven’t really warmed to anyone in the way that I had my faves last year. Same Difference to win though, my 5 year old daughter loves ‘em!

    Comment by annii — Wednesday, 12 December, 2007 @ 14:57

  32. nikis performance was brilliant she should not of gone.
Leon should of gone he has been rubish from the start.

    Comment by jordan — Wednesday, 12 December, 2007 @ 16:05

  33. I agree with Jordan, Leon is soooooo crap. He can’t sing, he dances like my dad and he has no personality at all, only reason tha he’s still in the competition is because he’s the only scot and so all of scotland must be voting for him. Only hope that he goes in the first half on saturday. I hope SD win cos they’re so good at what they do, they give it their all, they’re versatile and have never been in the bottom two so it says something, Id like to see them singing a good old Carpenters song, that would be a proper brother and sister moment! As long as Leon doesn’t win, I’d be happy if it was Rhydian or SD.

    Comment by pog — Wednesday, 12 December, 2007 @ 17:29

  34. All I want for Christmas is Simon Cowell, yummy! Same Difference you’re winners in our house! Good Luck Sean and Sarah. By the way, Sarah if you ever get to read the blogs, you’re a winner for coming through the awful bullying and you’re a very talented and beautiful young lady, don’t ever stop being you, you are a breath of fresh air. Well Done.

    Comment by Santa — Wednesday, 12 December, 2007 @ 17:35

  35. If anyone should have gone it’s Same Difference…they take every song they sing and reduce it to utter blandness. Rhydian is technically very good but lacks the human touch in his perfomances. Leon has had some dodgy songs but when he’s on form he is excellent. Niki was a good singer, though a bit variable, but she didn’t bring anything different to the show for me…there’s a whole load of similar female balladeers - I am a bit taken aback that she had a signing in the 80’s - but fair play to her, she might get some work from having been on X factor. I agree with the comments about the judges sniping at each other but apart from Same Difference, the right people are in the final.
I’d like Leon to win because I think Rhydian is a shoo in to get a contract whatever position he gets in the final.
As for all the anti Scottish voting comments, get a life, if you English/Welsh can’t vote en masse for your countryman then that’s your lookout.

    Comment by Vanessa — Thursday, 13 December, 2007 @ 11:28

  36. Leon was best at the auditions, and he should’ve stayed there. I think maybe Scotland is voting for him because they feel a loyality to a fellow scot but he’s been kept in through loyalty and not because he’s good and thats for the wrong reasons. If he should win (god forbid) he wouldn’t last long in the charts cos’ all those loyal fellow scots who voted to keep him in wold not be buying his music.

    Comment by tallulah — Thursday, 13 December, 2007 @ 17:56

  37. It was a shame to see Niki go :( i beleive she was the best singer along with ryhidian… Ryhdian will now win the x-factor… but it would have been nice to hear niki sing in the final… I hope Niki gets a contract and can get a future in singing… as she deserves… she is a natural singer and total world class!

Leon Would Probably Be A Big Hit For The Teenagers
Rhydian Would Sell To People Who Are Interested In His Kind Of Music

    Comment by Louise — Friday, 14 December, 2007 @ 19:52

  40. Whatever, Leon will not Win. Not that he is not good in his performances in anyway. The whole of scotland can back him patriotically, but the rest of England should back Rhydian up. He is the best (Rhyd) and realy deserves to win. A little more work on his personality and his tennacity will make Greta and survive in the real world out there. Sad Nikki left, that’s British voting for you. But honestly speaking, SD are not that Bad at all.
Please all, Vote for Rhydian Roberts.

  46. Comment 42. Its an opinion, I’m entitled to one and if someones opinion is going to rattle you so much then I’d choose the cbeebies website as this one obviously is a little too grown up for you. By the way, Im a university graduate so my 2 so called brain cells have a lot to answer for! Yes, Leon did walk it, and myself and lots of pepole will probably always ask why?? Rhydian is the true winner and will no doubt walk a lot further.

    Comment by Pog — Sunday, 16 December, 2007 @ 15:33

  47. Leon has been rubbish for weeks he should have gone weeks ago. He was still singing off key in the final but his delivery of the wining song was actually good. I wish the lad good luck.
Rhydian should have won, with Nicki a close second.
if louis has any sense he should give Nicki a contract NOW.
