Hope Out as Public Decide

Tonight’s X Factor was decided entirely on the votes of the public, and it was Hope and Same Difference that were in the bottom two.

Judges Simon Cowell was understandably unhappy as his two remaining acts polled the lowest number of votes, but ultimately it was girl group Hope who left the competition.

  1. I can not believe it!

Why have Hope gone! they are better then Same Difference! Same Difference should be at Butlins!

Same Difference will be off next week!

    Comment by Becky — Saturday, 1 December, 2007 @ 21:42

  2. At last Hope have no hope, the voting audience finally got it right! Now just get rid of the brother and sister weirdos

    Comment by Angela — Saturday, 1 December, 2007 @ 21:48

  3. There wasn’t a bottom two-just a bottom one.Same Difference weren’t necessarily second bottom but thankfully Hopeless have finally gone weeks after they should have.

    Comment by dave johnson — Saturday, 1 December, 2007 @ 22:04

  4. angela, that’s a very unkind comment, have you got the talent to perform at5 Butlins?

    Comment by bobbo — Saturday, 1 December, 2007 @ 22:09

  5. Thank goodness Hope are gone. I suspect there was a severe miscalculation about this group, manufactured with a view of pushing them through to the final. What those behind them hadnt reckoned on was their lack of singing ability, the general lack of any likeability factor and their apparent determinaton to play the diva offstage without possessing a single one of the qualities that divas should have. They wll probably now implode in a flurry of catty recriminations and hopefully never be heard of again.

  6. fab show tonight. Next week will be like the final - all class acts, particularly Rhidian, Leon and Nicki. Can’t believe that Kylie will be on the show as well - would love to meet her - having suffered the same illness and think that she is an inspiration for all those sufferers out there!! How does she do it in the public eye beats me. Anyway if there are any spare tickets out there so I can see Rhydian get through to the final and meet Kylie is an absolute bonus - please, please contact me at my email addres - i would love to be there. Di Johnson Perhaps this is not the right blog, but what a great show anyway.

    Comment by Diane Johnson — Saturday, 1 December, 2007 @ 22:53

  7. leave same difference alone i thought they were way beta than hope and they are not WEIRDOS!!!

    Comment by Rachel — Saturday, 1 December, 2007 @ 23:38

  8. “Hope and Same Difference that were in the bottom two.” err. NO. As the results were read out in no particular order, Same Difference may not have been in the bottom two.

Same Difference no matter how cheesy, are the single most professional act on the show. I think the British music scene needs an act like this desperately, otherwise we might all die of depression from shitty little indie groups who can’t sing.

    Comment by Ben — Saturday, 1 December, 2007 @ 23:50

  9. Same Difference didn’t actually get the lowest votes after Hope. They were just the last of the semi-finalists to be called. It’s always done in ‘no particular order’.

    Comment by Misha — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 00:09

  10. I like Same Difference!!! They are funny but better than Hope? I think that they were not the winners, maybe the winne will be Ridyan…

    Comment by Sebastian — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 03:20

  11. I think that now (No) Hope has gone Same Difference will go next week followed by Niki. That will leave the awful Leon and Rhydian ‘The Winner’ Roberts. If Rhydian doesn’t win it is obviously a fix as he’s the only one with any talent!

    Comment by JackT — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 10:42

  12. I think Hope were really good at singing, and Rydian should have gone,he’s so weird and it’s a pop competition not an opera.

And leon isnt very good either.

same differance and niki in the final!!!!

    Comment by Sophie — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 11:20

  13. I think we all need to step back in to the REAL WORLD. Same difference are not record sellng artists they would last half a year and appeal to the under 12’s!!!!

Beverly was WAY better then Same Difference and Hope were WAY better then Same difference too!

It’s a popularity contest when its public vote NOT based on the talent. Same difference are just too cheesy and every time i watch them i cringe and have to leave the room! The girl **** me off her cheesy smile and it’s just weird!

    Comment by Becky — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 11:24

  14. I definitely consider there was a problem with the voting system last evening at Hopes expense.

I voted easily for Nicky but when I tried to place a vote for Hope it was constantly too busy to get through due to high demand, From this I assumed that Hope would be top of the list because everybody must be voting for them.

I belive that there was an error preventing votes to be logged for Hope.

    Did anybody else experience this??

    Comment by Philip Atkinson — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 11:30

  15. Hope should never of went.. i would rather buy their album than anyone else in the compotition. Leon to win now!.. up the scots x

    Comment by Babes — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 12:22

  16. The voting was in no paricular order so it does not mean that Same Difference polled the second lowest votes! However, they probably did and will more than likely be leaving next week! Simon won’t mind though as he obviously wants Rhydian to win anyway!

    Comment by Joe Public — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 12:25

those silly flat untalented ho hopers have gone did not know the result as i was out it has made my day thank you the public we have seen the light.

    Comment by shelley — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 12:26

  18. At last! Now please get rid of those two brother and sister geeks who should stick to kids’ TV

    Comment by Liz — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 13:07

  19. Good greif, never mind Hope going, what on earth are Same Difference still doing in the competition - they are truly awful.
Hope were much better and should still be in, although I am not sure they were winning material they were heaps better than the ultimate cheese trash that is SD.

  20. Hope are gone. FINALLY!!!! I missed the show last night cos I was stuck at work but hearing that the unpleasantness, that is this bunch of talentless bimbos, have now been given the heave-ho. It made my night. And made a night shift much more bearable. Well done Britain for seeing the light. Rhydian to win

    Comment by Lisa — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 16:57

  21. Phillip Atkinson, no one else experienced any problems with the voting lines for Hope. It’s easier to text if you cannot get through. Hope deserved to leave this time around, not any other contestants, unfortunately.

    Comment by lunmsy — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 18:56

  22. In all honesty I do not think that any of the finalist have the X factor, none of them had any WOW about them, if I had chosen it would have been Beverly.

From the top, there is no disputing that Rhydian has a good voice, however, he is not going to sell records and make Simon more millions, and he will get a job most probably in Theatre land which suits his voice. Nicky has a good voice; again she is not going to sell records either, although I think she will make a good living from her singing. Leon has a voice but he is too mild and meek for the cut throat pop world. In time his voice will develop and I wish him well.

The brother and sister, I can see them as children entertainers, again, I do not think that they will sell records. I would have thought that either her parents or Simon would have pulled her to one side and told her to stop acting like a simpleton, the girl does not act like a normal 18 year old, she must choreograph herself as Shirley Temple singing “On the good ship lollipop” with her stupid smile and her child like presence on stage. One good thing for her is that she isn’t my sister.

One “deadlock” I would like to witness, Louis and Simon having a no holds barred fist fight, proceeds go to charity

    Comment by Dave — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 19:09

  23. Same difference could be stars - not hope. I would love to see same difference in an updated disney class film that would undoubtedly fill cinemas for generations. They make people feel happy - what is wrong with that?

Simon you asked the wrong question, though I can see why. Louis may have had a very happy childhood but that is not an entire preparation for real life and Same Difference just bring back to us the unalloyed pleasures that some of us were luck enought to have.

Meanwhile right up at the top is Rhydian - Sharon did I really hear you ask if he had two kidneys? I don’t like sob stories either but the point is he has not done any and what the hell are you on about? (And why?)

    Comment by lesley — Sunday, 2 December, 2007 @ 20:53

  24. This is my rant at how the camera angles and microphone quality are doing SD a disservice.

Camera angles - is anyone else irritated at the poor quality camera work involved when SD are doing their fast numbers? The camera angles change constantly which is nausea generating. It is fine for static performances where different camera angles break the monotony like most of Niki’s, Rhydians performances. However, this works against fast numbers as the home audience can’t appreciate the production quality on stage (the great SD dancing etc.) Why not just concentrate on a frontal view of the whole stage as there is enough going on to capture our attentions when SD are performing. Instead we get this redundant manic sweeping angles of the neon lights etc.

Microphones - especially for Any Dream and Wake Me Up, i found the microphone volumes were set too low. At certain points the background music/children’s choir were actually drowning out their voices. Did they bother to reset the volume levels for the microphones after Niki/Rhydian?? This is X-Factor, not Shout-Factor!! I’d buy someone’s record not cos’ they sang the loudest but cos’ of the quality of their voice and entertainment value (aka SD!!).

Any tech or entertainment industry people have a view?

  25. Well, so the ‘popularity contest’ was consistent and Hope, who have been at the bottom more than anyone else are now out.

In our view, and my husband in a pro musician, there isn’t a Leona this year, and even she has been polished for a year before her CD release - and it really shows - what a star.

Dave, who commented earlier, sums it up. Rhydian has the voice, but then he should have after five years training, he will have a career on the west end stage but a recording artist - doubt it. Nicki was great last night, stole the show, but she isn’t always as good, high class cabaret - AND WHATS WRONG WITH THAT - I would go to a dinner dance with her singing, not sure about a concert though, or about buying her CDs. Same difference are hugely talented - no other contestant (in any series) can carry off a song and dance routine like them, but as recording artists doubt they would last and I do agree, I would love to see the sister tone done the cheesiness a bit. Does the kiddy (& Granny) market buy enough CDs to give them a career - maybe, after all it made pots of money for the awful and totally untalented Charlotte Church all based on her being ‘cute’. As for Leon, well were we the only people who cringed all the way through Long and Winding Road? He was out of tune all the way through. He does have a lovely voice but needs a lot of training before he can hope to make a career in singing - come back in two years Leon, as a real pro.

But the real ‘loosers’ to me are the judges, the endless bickering between Louis and Simon, the useless Danii pontificating on the quality of singing and then weeping over out of tune performances, and Sharon - I often think she is having a bad trip. ‘Show me your pecs’, ‘have you got two kidneys’, you’ve got such cute little legs’. The woman is plan daft.

I really think this year may mark the end of the X factor - it’s had its day.

  26. People, stop having a go at Same Diff.
Peoples oppions have changed alot, last week everyone was having a go at hope.
If you want people with variety then gat rid of Niki. She’s crap and can only do ballads, anything modern and she falls flat on her face. Even RHIDIANN has more variety.

Rhydian is the only half decent act left.

    Comment by heather — Monday, 3 December, 2007 @ 12:33

  27. Totally agree with Angela, SD are a pair of weirdos, they give me the creeps (sorry!!) glad that Hope have gone, couldn’t bear that Raquelle and her constant batting of her eyelids and fake smile. At least we’ve been left with some decent talent to watch. (well we will once SD get voted off!!! stop children calling in, they should be in bed!!!!)

Also, I know it was Best of British night and Freddie Mercury and Queen were great, but they are not the only British acts!! it sounded more like a tribute to Freddie night!! What about great songs from other acts like Oasis, Elton John etc. Did we really have to listen to so many Queen songs????

  28. Hi, does anyone know where Hope got their black dresses from on Saturday (the ones they wore to sing we will rock you)?

    Comment by Em — Monday, 3 December, 2007 @ 15:27

  29. I used to enjoy the X factor, great Saturday night entertainment. Now it consists of shameful and unprofessinal sniping and downright arguing by the judges and contestants wih very little if any talent and/or charisma let alone x factor.

I do not turn on my TV to watch arguing. the judges should be ashamed of the way they are treating the TV and studio audience and as for the contestants, have any of them received ANY support? It appears that the choreographer (who has been subjected to vile remarks himself) does everything for the contestants.

If this was the BBC I would ask for a refund of my licence fee, instead I watch Strictly Come Dancing instead where CONSTRUCTIVE criticism and PROFESSIONALISM have rightly been given absolute priority. The contestants on the x factor are vulnerable and in need of support and respect. The judges should be voted off, sent home and replaced with professionals who place the contestant FIRST.

    Comment by Jennie — Monday, 3 December, 2007 @ 15:38

  30. Rhydian & Niki have been the only true talented people on the show from the start. Get Rhydian to check out the song “Here’s to the Heros” (Mario Frangoulis follow your heart CD), he will do it to perfection and knock your socks off.
The tit for tat between the judges is now getting tiresome, please tone it down boys and girls.

    Comment by Alan — Monday, 3 December, 2007 @ 16:32

  31. its true what Louis said, hope should have gone last week and Beverly should still be in it. As for same difference, they are total weirdo’s and i absolutely agree, the only place for them is Butlins, send them home!

    Comment by Gel — Monday, 3 December, 2007 @ 19:12

  32. This is the first year I have watched X Factor and I have yet to figure out what the objective is!

If it is to find a pop star, then Nikki should win. She has a good strong voice, looks great and has bags of charisma. But she needs to overcome this nervous ‘tic’ where she covers her mouth with her hand.

If it is to find a performer, then Rhydian will win. He has a fantastic voice and could easily take the lead in a Broadway production, but he can’t sing pop to save his life and has as much chance of filling Wembley as my aunty Mabel!

If it is to find an entertainer, then Same Difference will win. They would be great for variety performances at the Palladium and summer seasons, but they can’t actually sing in tune and are far to cheesy for a pop act. One novelty record perhaps, but not a career.

If it is to find a complete no hoper, then Leon is the man! Why do the judges say he is getting better each week? He mumbles his way through every song, he can’t dance and has the personality of a park bench!

  33. Leon to win!!! Come on Leon you can do it !!!

    Comment by Vicky — Saturday, 8 December, 2007 @ 19:38

  34. Leon to go home!! Come on Leon you can do it, just sing right off key again and then dance like my dad, just do what comes natural to you, you make it seem so easy, oh yeh, mumble your way through your interview and then say for the 100th time that you’re don this for your mum,to give her something back, boo hoo, violins…..boring….michael buble?…never bleedin heard of him!
