Louis: “Ray your a really nice guy but the show is the X Factor, not the swing factor. If it was the swing factor you’d win. You did the very same as last week. Having the X Factor is about being versatile and if you are a serious contender in this competition, you must change. You are a one trick pony. It was the wrong song, you are not versatile, everybody else changed.”
Sharon: “You are like..I don’t know what to say. You’ve got an old soul. I love what you do, I understand where you’re coming from, its old Ratpack.. Thats what you love, its your genre… … more power to you. Michael Buble does it, he’s not a good dancer as you though. It’s your thing, so god bless you.”
Simon “Ray I’ve gotta give you top marks for that. OK, it wasn’t the best vocals. Picking up on what Louis said, that’s an idiotic thing to say Louis, with respect, not many people care about your opinion. My point is, you have to stick to what you do best, no one has done a swing version of Abba before, it would have been easy to do a McDougal karaoke version but you took a risk and you are doing your thing very well.”
Take no notice Ray, I loved your performance. What does Louis know he’s only got two acts left. Keep doing what you’re doing cause you’re the best.

louis was spot on whith what he said. if all ray can do is swing then he has no chance of winning.

So its not ok for Ray to do swing, but its ok for Ben to sound like Rod Stewart and Joe Cocker every week?
Ben can only sing one type of song as well with that awful voice, I feel like I want to cough for him. Talent yes, X factor no. He can only sing rock.

I love Ben, but fair is fair. why was it ok for Ben to sing ballad last week and rock this week, but not ok for Ray to swing this week?!!!!!!!!!

Can i just say, i thinks ray is great. Everyone has their genre and his is swing. Its not fair what louis said to ray. Ben does the same stuff each week, but its not fair that ray does? Its rubbish! Gud Luk Ray, ur doin boss!

In ‘Smile’ Ben (and Mark) dug deep, took the song in and let it resurface utterly and brilliantly transformed. It was a proper interpretation. Ray’s big band ‘Waterloo’ was paint by numbers by comparison.
It’s not to do with Ray singing in his own style so much as whether he is authentically an artist. I’m afraid that to my eyes at least he is a limited performer, talented within his own field, especially as a dancer, but not special enough. Sorry.
(On the other hand, Ben’s SOS was a weaker performance than he’s put in yet. If every week he were like that, I’d say people would have a fair point in asking why the goose and the gander can’t be treated according to the same standards. But I fully expect he’ll be brilliant again next week.)

Sorry guys, but Simon knows only too well if he gives Ray anything other than Swing to do, he’s for the chop. Robbie Williams did Swing, but that was just a bit of diversification for him. Ray really is a one trick pony – he’s good at it, but it’ll get boring week after week (even with the cheeky grin). Unfortunately he does have the waekest voice of the contestants left – which Simon has already admitted to.
Don’t think the comparison with Ben is a valid one. Sure he’s got a distinctive voice – didn’t do R.Stewart, J.Cocker or M.Bolton any harm. Hopefully you’ll find he can do different genres – he just hasn’t had the chance to showcase it yet.

never said it was ok for ben to do a soft rock version. ive said this in another post. simon was the one being the hypocrite, saying that ray did good because he stuck to his genre and then slating ben off for doing the same thing. ben has an amazing voice, ray has a cheesy one. i feel bens version of abba was so much better than rays. swing and abba dont mix.
