21 year old Shayne from Clayton, Manchester, today said thanks to all his fans for the support that they have given him, which has enabled him to become the winner of The X Factor and clinch the 1 million pound recording contract and hopefully the number one single spot for Christmas.
He told the Manchester Evening News “I’d like to thank everyone in Manchester and the readers and staff of the Manchester Evening News for their huge support and for voting for me. It means so much to me to have won The X-Factor - I just can’t explain how happy you have all made me. I’m so thrilled with the way the people of Manchester have backed me. It was such a close vote and it’s down to you all that I won - thank you, thank you all so much.”
It was a senstational show and the viewers knew that Shayne Ward deserved to win, and voted accordingly. With over 10 million votes, there was, at times, just over 1% in it, that’s how close it was! Andy and Journey South also put up a pretty good show, but, as Simon Cowell rightly said tonight “No disrespect meant to anyone but, the viewers chose the right winner.”
Andy Abraham’s version of “That’s My Goal” was the first to be aired live, giving the viewers an initial preview of the song, but, Shayne’s later version of “That’s My Goal” was amazing and secured his place as the winner of The X Factor 2005. Shayne was understandably shell-shocked and could hardly speak, but he graciously managed to hold back his tears of joy and thanked all his faithful supporters and sang the potential number one Christmas song once again “That’s My Goal” to an ecstatic crowd, which could hardly contain their excitement.
Shayne then witnessed his pre-recorded single going into production, as Andi Peters pressed the factory button which initiated the production of “That’s My Goal” being mass produced, ready for the Xmas sell-out.
Reflecting on being the winner of X Factor 2005, Shayne said that he “cannot believe that it is real”, that “it hasn’t sunk in yet” and that he honestly thought it would be a final between Journey South and Andy.
The nation will be glued to the television tonight to find out which of the three finalists is going to be crowned as the winner of X Factor 2005 and have their single released in time for Xmas.

Journey south duo Carl and Andy Pemberton have said that they have been heavily involved in their song choices for the final on Saturday and that they themselves chose “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me”. They also chewed over which song choice the viewers would have wanted them to pick and came up with “Let It Be”. “Merry Christmas (War Is Over)”, was a joint decision between themselves and Simon.
They said that “We’re just thinking about tomorrow night and our performance, we just want to try and enjoy it. Last week was horrendous, the pressure of trying to get into the final, but now we’ve all got there so were just all gonna go out and enjoy it tomorrow night and just try and curb the pressure a bit.”
Shayne, Andy and Journey South admitted to all supporting each other and having a laugh back stage and that this has helped to stop the pressure getting to them. “Its good to have five minutes alone in a room too”, added Journey south.
Here’s wishing the lads good luck for tomorrow and if Journey South don’t win, they may still be winners in their own right. According to the Daily Star, they have already reportedly agreed terms on a professional contract with Simon Cowell and have been signed up to his Syco record label.
